Question about Toshiba Televison & Video

1 Answer

No Picture. I do have sound and it will change channels. I have unplugged power cord and let set. Lights flash on front like it is re-setting itself, but still no picture. I have also removed the DVD player and just attached the cable (Cox Cable). Neighbors who are also on Cox Cable are not having any problems. TV is less than 4 years old.

This could be one of several things, the line or frame stage may have developed a fault which would put the set into a protection mode to stop any damage to the CRT. You would need to remove the rear cover & use a mutil-meter to check which voltages are present & which are missing to the timebase stages. It could be the frame IC or the line output transistor/ output stage.

Flashing red light off and on button sound but no picture

If your TV has sound but no picture, start by making sure that all of the set-top box cables and cords are connected and the set-top box is turned on. Also check to see that the TV is set on the correct channel and that the DVD player is not on.

If the power light is flashing, it could be excessive or shorted voltage or that the capacitors are malfunctioning. In this case, replacement capacitors or a new power board is in order. Contact a professional for help.

If you hear a chirping sound, that is the shutdown circuit activating, indicating a problem with the power supply.

Follow the money or this case the voltage--follow power cord into the set and to the power supply board--there will be a fuse there---extremely unusual for there not to be blinking lights if the set does not turn on---

Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.

Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Panasonic viera has flashing channel info in upper left corner

I had this exact same issue just yesterday. Channel info would flash intermittently. While set was in this mode, could not enter menu, change channels, etc. from remote or front panel controls. Similar to tjh492, I thought it might be an overheating issue. But unplugging the Viera and waiting for set to cool made no difference.

I then remembered that this issue popped up the instance I surfed to a particular channel (FWIW, 26-3 "Me Too" on Comcast here in Aurora, Illinois, USA). I had a hunch that there might be an issue with the signal on the channel that prevented the Viera from properly syncing, so I decided to unplug the antenna cable. Once I did that, the channel info displayed steady. I was then able to change channels (of course screen was blank as antenna cable was unplugged) and enter the Viera menu. I immediately went to channel set-up and manually removed channel 26-3 from the channel list. After reconnecting cable, Viera was back to normal. Since I'm not a big fan of "Me Too", problem solved :)

Not sure why a digital channel sync issue would effectively make the Viera remote and front panel controls inoperable. Pure speculation, but it could be that the Viera microprocessor was overloaded trying to sync to channel and this prevented any interrupts from remote or front panel controls.

TV turns off by itself, juggling power cord causes TV to come back on

It could seem to be a power cord problem But when you move around the cord you are realisticly flexing the printed circuit board assy. If you know all the safety issues around the servicing a solid state tv, then Of course I will assit you, in any way I can, But you must be aware of the high voltage that these sets store , even if they Are unplugged. Its a total safety issue. If you have no experience using a multi- meter as well as the safety issue awarness, then PLEASE seek a pro to assist you with this reapir, as it will get worse in the long run and cost ya more to fix, as everytime you move around the cord and the set shuts off, then goes on , your surging the componets!. Good Luck
