Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a Nakamichi TA-3A (since new) and one channel on both the A and B speakers is weak or inaudible. I would like to keep the unit if repairs are reasonable. I have replaced patch cables and speakers (left & right)

Southern New Hampshire. I would love for it to be so simple - is it likely (being rather handy) a small brush, can or air, and TLC would address this myself?

The problem is internal to the receiver and could be as simple as dirty controls. Where are you located?

I would start with using an electronics cleaner spray that contains a lubricant and spray all of hte controls and switches. If that does not resolve it, it could be electronic as well. Feel free to stop by the Lancaster Flea Market in Lancaster Ma. and I'll take a look for you as well.

Going on standbymode and power green light blinking TA4 nakamachi

I'm not familiar with this product, and there the best I offer is that you consult the user guide (which you probably already have)
http://www.ps2netdrivers.net/manual/nakamichi.ta-4/#manual
or (buy) a service manual (which it seems includes a troubleshooting guide) from any of a number places, two are given below:
http://www.manualszone.com/en/nakamichi-service-manuals/62888-NAKAMICHI-TA4-service-manual.html
and
http://www.nakamichi.owner-manuals.com/TA4-service-manual-NAKAMICHI.html
All three manuals/guides are available from
http://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/nakamichi/ta-4.shtml
There other websites where you an download the service manual (I don't know if the are the 'official' service manual, or different ones that have been written by different people).
If you are really stuck contact Nakamichi through www.nakamichi.com or (what appears to be a more friendly site) http://www.nakamichi.co.uk/support

I have seen this a lot of time on Yamahas, one of the channels are either a bit or a lot softer than the other, this happens after warrenty and you need to have it repaired.

No sound from centre speaker on my Bose Lifestyle 8 series 2 system. I've checked leads and speakers by swapping them around. If it is the Acoustimass module which units are compatible?

Check your audio settings, via the on-screen menu. The center channel may be turned down. When set at -5 to -8, the center channel speaker may be practically inaudible. If raising the volume of the center channel does not solve the problem, then you do have a dead center channel. The system would then be in need of repair.

I would recommend taking it back to the pro that installed it given it hasn't been to long. Also the deck should be warrantied and if the front side is not working I would consider that a faulty head unit. I know Nakamichi head units are not cheap.

Go back to the store you purchases it from or contact Nakamichi directly at the link below:

The word protect keeps coming up on the screen

This most likely is referring to a protection fault - ie a short circuit. Usually in the speaker wiring, it can also occur inside the unit.

Circa 1980 nakamichi tuner amplifier TA-3A

Hi jac48k

Anything branded Nakamichi is worth repairing in my opinion. The problem may be something quite simple, or worst case a blown output stage. First check that there are no problems with the speaker wiring or speakers. This can be done quickly by disconnecting the speaker wires and see if the unit fires up correctly. If it still shows the protection mode by blinking power light, then it will need some repair work done. If you are not versed in electronic repairs, fault-finding or soldering, then i suggest looking fpor a repair guy. Contact your local HiFi specialist retailer, They always know who you can trust to look at it for you, if not take it on themselves. Good Luck.
