I have a dcp-7020 and tried to use a compatible toner cartridge, but all I get is an error message that says No Cartridge. Anyone else have the same problem? I've got a brother original cartridge on order and will try if that works.

If you are using non brother toner then that's the problem, if not it is the drum unit.

Where is the drum located in the printer?

The drum unit is attached to the toner cartridge for the DCP-7020. If you open the front cover (flips down) of the printer, you need to simply pull the drum and toner unit straight out from the printer. You should place the unit on a large drop cloth or piece of paper to ensure that the toner doesn't spill. See chapter 6, page 12 (page 52) of the User's manual for the image of the drum unit. Page 6-19 has the removal procedure. You separate the toner unit from the drum by pressing and holding a lever on the left side of the unit. Then pull the toner cartridge straight out from the drum unit. The User's manual is available from Brother's product support page. The direct link to the manual is .

I hope this helps.

I have a brother DCP-7020, I recently changed the Toner, and the printer still thinks the Toner is out, when it's brand new and full. I have restarted & disconnected the printer to no avail, any...

There seems to be a semi-magic routine to reset the toner counter on the DCP 7020. It is, I quote,

"Open the front cover.
Press options button.
Press the start button.
Press + or up arrow button 10 times.
Press set button.".

This ought to be done with a "pause" of 2-3 seconds (between keys, I'd think) to avoid the system resetting and having to start over.

Laser Printer Brother DCP-7020

If you open the front cover you will have a grey/black part which is easily removed from the machine. This is the toner/drum package, where the grey part is the drum unit. If you look on the right side on the part of the toner/drum package that would go furthest into the machine, you'll see the corona cleaner, which you should move among the line (left to right) 7-8 times or similar. This should clean the corona wire and solve the problem.
Just put the corona cleaner back to where it started and re-insert the toner/drum package into the machine again.

Brother DCP-7020 Drum problems

Open the front of the printer by pulling on both tabs at the finger grips on both sides of the front panel. The front panel will flip down. The drum and toner cartridge comes out as a single unit. It is black plastic within gray plastic and has a handle like grip in the middle. Grasp this grip and pull the unit up and out. It feels kinda funny the first time you do it and you may feel like it will break, but it won't. Pull it up and out in a kinda circular arc. Do not touch the drum. If you ever need to replace the toner cartridge, press on the blue tap and separate the drum from the toner cartridge. You will have to replace the drum after every five toner cartridge replacements so practice doing it now. Note the tabs and slots on the sides before separating the drum and cartridge. Align the cartridge into the drum carriage and slide it in until it clicks. To replace the cartridge assembly into the printer, angle the cartridge at about 45 degrees and rotate in while pushing. It should click into place. If the front door then closes properly, you should have it in properly. Practice a few times and you should be an expert. For paper jams, there are many places to check and they may not all give warnings. First pull out the paper tray and check for and remove misfeeds. Remove the drum cartridge assembly and described here and check for and remove any paper. Open the back cover and check for and remove any paper. Open the automatic feed and check there as well as lifting the cover where the scanning surface is. Look in the rollers for the automatic feed for paper pieces. The last place almost never gives you a warning. Reach into the slot where the paper exits after being printed and grasp the whole top cover. Lift upward and it will open about 4 inches. This is a good place where small pieces of paper or even whole sheets may get stuck. Clean out any dust while you are there.
