Question about Poulan Pro 22" Self Propelled High Wheel Mower

1 Answer

I need a diagram to assist in changing the drive

I have a Poulan Pro 22" high wheel self propelled mower. I need some advise on how to get the bottom end apart after you take the blade off so I can change the drive belt. It acts like it is slipping.

The model number is PP6Y22CHA. It looks like you have to take the mower blade mounting bracket off the bottom to get a cover off on order to get the belt off the pulley. I'm not sure how to get the mounting plate off. (or maybe there is another way)
    Thanks for your help.

If you are referring to the blade adapter, spray some penetrating oil on the shaft above it and let it soak for a while, after it has soaked, take a small hammer and tap downward on the adapter while pulling downward on it away from the engine. Be careful to not strike it so hard that you break it. They usually come off with just a little effort

How to replace the self propelled

Make sure the cable to the transmission moves freely. If all the cables and lever s move freely than it more than likey is an internal gear needs replacing.

Self-propell won't work

broken or worn out worm/sector gear most likely.

can you spin the drive pulley on the transmission and see if the wheels turn? If they dont spin you have internal damage or wear. If they do spin you either have a worn out drive engagement cable or it has come off the transmission.

good luck and be careful!

My Poulan self propelled lawn mower model 961320048 is leaking oil from the bottom after use. I cannot find the oil drain plug to tighten it. Where is it located?

where is the oil on under there ??if it's on the shaft where the blade attaches the the oil seal is bad...that's caused by old oil, which is too thin and seeps out...try changing the oil first...

this will help...copy & paste...

Poulan Pro 22" does not mulch!

When you mulch you can only cut 1/3 of the grass off. If the grass is 3" high you can only cut 1" off.If you are cutting more grass of than you are leaving there is no place to hide the clippings.A general rule is if you notice clippings and clumps beginning to lay set the mower up one notch at a time until the clippings are hardly noticeable. If you like a real low cut then mulching is probably not for you,you will probably want to bag the grass instead.Hope this helps.
