If you want to play the latest games, then I would suggest a computer with a DVD-ROM drive (most games come on dvd now), 4 gigs of ram, one of the faster versions of the Core2Duo or Core2Quad, and a 512 mb graphics card. I don't know what kind of graphics cards companies put in when you build your own computer and select a higher option for the video card, so you might be better off not upgrading the video right off the bat and going to some place like http://www.newegg.com/ and getting a good one. If you think I'm overdoing it on the specs, you have to realize that when you use your computer for gaming, you can't skimp on the hardware.

As for your second question, *ddr* is just a speed rating for memory. ddr2 or 3 refers to the speed of ram. gddr2 or 3 generally refers to the speed of memory in a graphics card, hence the "g". The higher the number, the faster the memory.

A setup to play these kind of games
u need

cpu : core@duo any model
graphic card : ati hd 3850 or higher /// nvidia 9600gt or higher
ram : 2gb or high with 800mhz fsb or more

ddr2 and ddr3 are types of ram
ddr2 is the most widely used one
dd3 is the latest model in rams and is the fastest, but is very expensive
price/performance is better or ddr2

gddr2, gddr3, gddr5 are different models of ram that is used on graphics card

gddr5 is the best that is in the market for mainstream users

was your vostro 230 third generation? meaning, did it use DDR2 memory before or always had DDR3? They are not compatible. 2nd generation computers cannot use third gen parts. cpu, ram, most none of that type stuff. the motherboards are different and cannot change. if it was ddr2 memory you have to use ddr2, not ddr3, hope that helps.

I have actually had the same problem myself. First you should try removing your Hard drive to see if that is what was causing the problem. If that isn't it then clear the cache by going to: System Settings -> Memory -> Device Options (Press Y while you are highlighting the proper storage device) -> Clear System Cache Try to start the game after that and should it still not work then try to install the game to your Hard Drive by inserting it at the Dashboard, pressing Y to access "Game Details" then "Install Game". If none of this works then you may have a faulty disc drive which you would need to contact Xbox Customer Support about.

Hello there! I wanted to upgrade my ACER ASPIRE T180 Mobo: MCP61M-AM-6A61KE11C-00 I want to upgrade the stock CPU : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+ Into an AMD Anthlon 64X2. Am2+ socket also...

AM2+ mainboard will mean that you will be able to install AM2 and AM3 CPU's. That includes Athlon 64 X2 and Athlon 2 X2 to X4.

My advice would be to look at an Athlon 2 X2 250 3.0GHz CPU at least. It will be able to run on DDR2 or DDR3 RAM, it depends which socket you install it in. AM2+ is DDR2 and AM3 is DDR3.
Try and get an AM3 mainboard if you can it is worth it, ASUS is good. However then you may need new RAM. You may want a new Graphics card as well. Go to a computer store or use the net to look around and learn more about the AMD computer. Computer stores build special gaming computers, very good looking and great performers. It all depends on your budget.

Take care and Happy Gaming!

Brand new game Brand new XBox, Freezes during load screen

The best solution would be to call microsoft at 1-800-4MYXBOX (I think that's the number, but you might want to check at xbox.com) and tell them your problem. I'm thinking it's the Left 4 Dead disc because from your question it runs world at war just fine. Try using a friend's L4D disc or rent it. And see if the problem occurs. I hope this helped solve your problem.

1333 FSB processor ( E6850 ) on a 1066 FSB motherboard, DDR2 667 memory

Hi proenza. you're making good sence! You're D945GCL MB should be able to run 1066 FSB. Not 100% sure you're memory will keep FSB up to 1066.
Here's the trouble though. The Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 will not run on the Intel D945GCL motherboard because it is not supported. Look here at Intel's web site. Supported CPU's.
http://processormatch.intel.com/CompDB/SearchResult.aspx?Boardname=d945gcl

Intel E6850 specs sheet. http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Intel-Intel-Core-2-Duo-E6850-Processor-3-0GHz-4MB-Cache-1333MHz-FSB-Conroe-Dual-Core-OEM-Socket-77

Intel E6700 spec sheet. http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Intel-Core-2-Duo-E6700-2-67Ghz

This CPU is supported by the D945GCL MB.
http://processormatch.intel.com/CompDB/SearchResult.aspx?Boardname=d945gcl

Intel Core 2 Duo E4700 Processor BX80557E4700 - 2.60GHz.
$149.99

In order to get 1066MHz (CPU can run at), you'll also need the memory support at 800MHz. The D945GCL MB can only run DDR2-667MHz.
Many people buy a CPU to run MB's specs (1333MHz) just to find the same MB does not support DDR2-1066MHz or DDR2-800MHz. Motherboard Mfg's are lagging. DDR3-1333MHz is out there now to support the 1333 MHz CPU FSB.

I hope this has helped you make a decision proenza.

Good Luck!

Mike
