SOURCE: operation lamp - amber light blinking

I do not know the solution to your problem but I can tell you that when the camera is working properly that amber light means the flash is chargeing or your camera is doing something like saveing a picture so if your battery is low your flash might not charge properly or your camera might have something wrong with is memory. Sorry i couldn't be a better help.Good luck!

1. Camera won't record photos. Make sure you've selected a photography mode with your camera, rather than a playback mode or a video mode. If your camera's battery power is low, the camera might not be able to record photos.
Additionally, if your camera's internal memory area or your Memory card is full, the camera won't record any more photos.
With some cameras, the internal software only allows a certain number of photos to be recorded on a single memory card because of how the software numbers each photo. Once the camera hits its limit, it won't save any more photos. (This problem is more likely to occur when an older camera is paired with a new, large memory card.)
The battery is the root of most common digital camera issues. Though battery life has been extended as battery and digital camera technologies evolve, no battery lasts forever. When your batteries begin to run out, sometimes your camera responds in wacky ways that may not seem connected. The flash may not come on, the autofocus won't engage as quickly as it did before or the LCD screen will power off intermittently. All of your camera's responsiveness is linked to its battery strength. Change batteries and try to recreate a problem; odds are you won't be able to. It's a good idea to carry a backup battery for cameras that use lithium-ion cells or a pack of spares for cameras that use AA. Watch your battery icon for a general idea of

Determine how the camcorder works. There are 3 basic modes of capturing stills with a camcorder. Read your instruction manual for specific information.
  • Step 2 Understand freeze-frame stills. The most common and least effective method is a "photo mode." Basically, the camcorder will simply freeze a frame of video for a few seconds, which can then be extracted later as a still.
  • Step 3 Use editing software to capture stills. This method is similar to the first, and can be done with any camcorder. Download an editing program or use the camcorder's bundled software. Then transfer the video over to your computer and use the software to pull out stills.
  • Step 4 Understand built-in digital cameras. This is a more expensive option, but results in higher quality photos. These cameras have built-in memory cards and function basically the same as a stand-alone digital camera. Refer to the manual to switch over to digital camera mode, then point and shoot. The photo quality is usually a bit lower than from a stand-alone camera.
  • Step 5 Compare specifications. Understand that specifications for high quality video don't necessarily translate to high quality stills. CCD determines the quality of video, while megapixels determine the quality of stills.
  • Step 6 Consider the value. Whether or not a combination digital camera and camcorder is best for you depends on how you'll be sharing your photos

Tape shows last 5seconds of previous clip before recording next clip

I'm not familiar with your particular model, but many cameras of this type have a "quick review" function that allows you to see what was recorded for the last few seconds to verify that all is well. This is critical in broadcast situations where you only get one shot to get the video. This is a quick way to verify that all is working without having a blank gap in the recording caused by an inaccurate rew/play/stop/rec sequence.

Check the manual for this "review" function.

    Power lamp blink

The fix is really easy and costs nothing, just 10 minutes of your time!

*I fixed mine (twice) this way*

    Turn the cam over.
remove all the screws holding the dark plastic bottom on the camcorder, remove it carefully.
Now you will see the ribbon cables, VERY GENTLY, wiggle them from left to right (about 1mm each way), then push them in.
Test by putting your battery back on and see if it holds a tape, or plays without blinking and switching off - you will be happy.

The fault is simply that one cable (I can't tell you which one) becomes loose over time, so it just needs to be pushed back in and the condensation error and/or the door closing problem go away!

A lot of folks are buying cams off eBay like this as it's such a simple repair!

Good luck - please help others - post back if it works!

Your camera has a defective CCD imager. Please return the camera prepaid to Canon in New Jersey, they are replacing the CCD at no charge to the customer. This is a known issue and is resolved by many of the manufacturers using the Sony CCD element in their cameras at no charge. Good Luck my friend. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org
