Question about Xerox DocuColor 12 Color Copier

5 Answers

My docucolor 252 is printing the black image bigger than the other three colors. About 1% or so. This results in a very blurry image. The other three colors line up perfectly, just the black is off. I have replaced the black drum with an old one and no difference. The problem started when I put a new black toner in, no idea why that would change anything. I tried putting the old toner back in and still no difference. The problem has gotten worse over the last two days. At first it was just a little off and now its worse. The black image seems to not be centered, even when I select auto center.

I have, but when it generates the caliboration page, it is so far off, i think the machine cant recognize it. I get to the final step in the caliboration process and it says that it doesn't see measurement page.

  • imacmike3 Sep 29, 2009

I have tried but the same result. The black image is bigger. Is there a way to adjust the size and position of each color? All i find is the whole image, so when i adjust the image it moves, with the black still bigger.

  • imacmike3 Sep 29, 2009

I don't think so, like i said the image is so blurry, i don't think the machine recognizes it. The image adjustments only adjust where the image is put on the paper, side to side and up and down. it changes the entire image so it still very blurry.

  • imacmike3 Sep 29, 2009

The test page is like everything else, the black is bigger so the image is blurry, We are trying the black overprint option now, we have the efi firey attached, not built in.
Sorry , I have to go back to see what else you asked.

  • imacmike3 Sep 29, 2009

If I print in black only, the copy is bigger than the original. black over print did not work, same results.

Thanks for your advise. I'm not sure that the lens is so much the problem because the blurry comes from the black image being bigger than the other three. If I print in black only, the image is sharp, same if I print in yellow or cyan or magenta, its only blurry when all four colors are printed. Is the lens assembly just under the glass on this machine. I see what looks like a camera lens, is that it?
Also, if its not to much trouble, how are you able to determine if turning the screw is fixing the problem with the machine all taken apart, do you have to make the adjustment, put everything back together and try it and if it needs to be turned more, disassemble and try again? Is there no other way of access to this screw?

  • imacmike3 Sep 30, 2009

Can you tell me where to find the black print head?

  • imacmike3 Sep 30, 2009

Yes I have followed the correct way to replace the toner and tried to re-calibrate but the image is so out of focus the machine wont recognize the image. I have the manuals for the machine but they only give basic adjustments "operator adjustments" not service adjustments. I would think that there is a way to adjust just the black image. I received a post from another person there and he said that there is a screw by the lens that would fix the problem and i am still waiting to hear back from him if I'm looking in the correct place.
So just so you know for sure what i am dealing with, my Xerox Docucolor 252 is printing the Black image larger than the other three colors. This causes the image to look blurry. I have tried just about every possible adjustment that i can do from the copier and I have software for the EFI Fiery Rip and alot of the same adjustments can be made from my computer. I have put old parts back in the machine to see if that would fix the problem, but it hasn't. I have tried to calibrate but the machine wont let me past the last step. It says that it doesn't recognize the calibration page and wont let me continue to up date the calibration. So the calibration set is from the day the machine was installed. I had to re-boot the system to get it to go back to that set. I calibrate the machine every month, til now. Sorry to go on so long, just trying to give you as much info as i can. When I print in single color the image is sharp and clean. Same for in cyan or yellow or magenta or black. Only when in full color, the black image is larger than the other three colors.

  • imacmike3 Oct 01, 2009

No, I cant think of anything else to try other than finding out how to adjust the black image to line up with the other three. I assume that there has to be a way to adjust just the black. In the manuals it only tells you how to adjust the image on the paper, not how to adjust a single color to the other three. So, all I'm looking for is how do I adjust the black image to the other three so they line up.

There are many users facing this problem.its only one solution.in your machine there is a lens assembly.on that lens assembly which is actually called the eye of the copier.there is some dust got collected.the dust can be of toner powder also.it actually gets collected on it and slight layer gets formed on it.this makes the image blurry.and about the image slightly bigger for that also there is a solution.exactly beside the lens assembly.there is a small rectangle green color circuit board.on that circuit board.there will be one screw.only one small screw which will differ from all other screws.you will just have to spin that screw with a screw driver clock wise.just spin for a second not more then that.just tilt it with a screw driver.this will adjust the image problem. --------------- one final advise.this all procedure needs to disassemble the copier.which is not at all a easy job to do manually without the proper knowledge.it will completely damage the copier. so its advisable to get it done by a proper technician. nothing is faulty or broken in your copier.but this two things needs to be done.this will help. ------------- thanks.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.thank you.

Do you have another black drum that you can try to see if this correct s the problem?

If so use it, if not then try recalibrating the machine. Is your Fiery calibrated and working OK? If the problem opersists then you will need to contact Xerox directly with your serial no details to ascertain what is going wrong. Sorry I could not be of further assistance.

Sounds like the black print head has shifted out of position?? Not really sure how to adjust it without the factory doing it. Check to see if the print head is loose or may have shifted..

Have you tried to re-calibrate the printer?

The procedure begins on page 122 of the manual (page 130 in the pdf).

Is it possible you could adjust the entire page so the calibration process would complete?

  • compugrl Sep 29, 2009

What about "Black Overprint" ... does that on or off make a difference?

Does the Self-test page on the printer look OK?

Does text printing look too big too or just graphics?

  • compugrl Sep 29, 2009

If the self-test page is bad then at least we know it is not a software or driver problem.

I'm out of suggestions - but, I think it is important to get the
printer to calibrate and to repeat the procedure every couple of weeks.

Please keep posting your progress. I'm interested to know you were able to resolve your issue. Regards,

If you are printing from an Adobe product make sure you are printing as image and let the printer manage the colors. Also, try calibrating and updating the machine through Command Workstation which can be downloaded for free from www.Efi.com. Download the updates by going to the Fiery web interface by typing the ip address of the copier in the web browser and going to the configure tab and clicking on check for updates. Make sure you install them in order and reboot the machine in-between updates. ALSO, you can import the file directly into the fiery by using command workstation avoiding any driver complications.

Residual image on DC12

Not sure if this is what you mean but it is normal for this machine to leave a faint residual image particularly noticeable on heavy weight glossy stock with high toner coverage. I found that it shows up on black the most. I reduced this by rubbing with a soft cloth after printing. You will also notice that the image becomes less noticeable after the oil evaporates. There really isn't a fix for this, it is the nature of the machine. Hope this helps.

Xerox DocuColor 4CP printer will not print colour. It will print black fine though. Have defaulted printer and printed colour page, still no colour, just black.

According to this site, Windows 7 drivers are available for the Xerox Docucolor 4CP printer.
What operating system are you using?
Also, is it possible that your color toner has been depleted?

Phote prints out faded and in black and pink only

Hello,

There are a number of single issues that can cause your problem in this case. The most common are listed below:
1.) Color cartridge expended.
2.) Print Paper selection incorrect.

From your statement above. I would suggest it is both item 1 and 2. Since, we are doing this assistance via chat mail, I can't come to your aid and witness myself what the results are and what your settings are for the paper type.

When you end up with a red hue over all over the print area the cause it usually a bad print head and selecting the wrong paper type.

To answer you question then, Yes, replace your color cartridge. But, first, try this method below to clean your color cartridge bubble jets.

When you go to print a job, always go into print setup or printer properties and choose the paper type as closely as you can to match the paper you are using.

The print head manual cleaning is listed below, it is from Lexmark. Below that is a process to clean blurry and bad print results. Although this is not specifically the case in your problem. The process to achieve resolution will also correct any problem your machine may be having. Remember, I do believe you need a new color cartridge. You will know with certainty however when you clean the cartridge head. If you do not see, cyan, magenta and yellow lines upon cleaning, at all, ever, then those inks are depleted. Replace your ink cartridge and then do these steps below the head cleaning.

Also, when ever you change a black or color cartridge you will want to run a print head alignment test and adjustment. There is enough of a difference in cartridges that this is quite necessary.

Please do not hesitate to give me as much feedback as possible on any issues and results you discover. You can use the comment text area below to respond to these instructions and give me the results of your tests and procedures.

Regards, Worldvet

Cleaning procedure
  1. Remove the print cartridges.
  2. Moisten a clean, lint-free cloth with water.
  3. Gently hold the cloth against the nozzles for about three seconds, and then wipe in the direction shown below.

    pattlnk_6142005_1418-all_carts_clean_manually.jpg

  4. Using another clean section of the cloth, gently hold the cloth against the contacts for about three seconds, and then wipe in the direction shown.

    pattlnk_6142005_1420-all_carts_clean_contacts.jpg
  5. With another clean section of the cloth, repeat steps 2 through 4 above.
  6. Allow the nozzles and contacts to dry completely.
  7. Reinsert the print cartridges.
  8. Print the document again.
  9. If the print quality does not improve, repeat the steps for cleaning the nozzles and contacts up to two more times.
To Resolve Print Quality Issues (below is for blurry lines, it will resolve many other issues too, so proceed after replacing your color ink cartridge if upon cleaning you see no ink coming out and the cartridge feels very light and makes little to no sound when you shake the cartridge.)

Overview This article outlines various techniques for resolving a blurry print issue. Cleaning the print cartridge nozzles is necessary when:
  • Characters are not printing completely.
  • White dashes appear in graphics or printed text.
  • Print is smudged or too dark.
  • Vertical, straight lines are not smooth.
  • Colors on print jobs are faded, or they differ from the colors on the screen.
Clean the Print Cartridge Nozzles using the Computer
    1. Load plain paper.
    2. Open the Lexmark Solution Center (go to Start, Programs, Lexmark XXXX Series, Lexmark Solution Center).
    3. From the Maintenance tab, click Clean to fix horizontal streaks.
    4. Click Print. A nozzle page prints, forcing ink through to clean the clogged nozzles.
    5. Print the document again to verify that print quality has improved.
    6. If print quality has not improved, try cleaning the print cartridge nozzles up to two more times.
Clean and Wick the Cartridge
  1. Try cleaning and wicking the cartridge to help improve the print quality. See this article for directions.
  2. When this step is complete, try to run the clean print nozzles (CPN) operation again.
Auto Alignment · Align the print cartridges
Align the print cartridges after installing them to improve print quality. To do this:
    1. Load plain paper.
    2. Open the Lexmark Solution Center.
    3. From the Maintenance tab, click Align to fix blurry edges.
    4. Click Print. NOTE: Discard the page after it prints.
User the Quality Settings in Print Properties
Print Properties is the software that controls the printing function when the All-In-One is connected to a computer. You can change the settings in Print Properties based on the type of project you want to create. Do the following:
  1. With a document open, click File, Print.
  2. In the Print dialog, click the Properties (or Preferences, or Options, or Setup) button. The Print Properties screen appears.

    pattlnk_3302007_1355-enus20502%20reduced.jpg

Use the Lexmark Photo Editor

Try printing a higher quality image, or print an image from a different source.
