Question about Electric Chainsaw Sharpener

1 Answer

Have an HT101 pole saw, nearly new condition, that just would not start after running quite smoothly. Stihl dealer took apart & found a broken piston ring; about 1/8 of ring end missing but with no trace of the missing part and no damage to the sleeve or piston. Bought new rings & reassembled per their guidance relative to crankshaft to cam gear alignment. Saw still will not start. Check of spark plug indicates spark is strong. Removal of exhaust and cranking shows gas fumes exhausting ok and an occasional 'pop' indicating combustion but not sustained. Talking with a Stihl rep, he indicated that the coil, if the ID number is below 515, which it is, may be problematic. Any sugggestions as to further checks. It still seems that either the spark timing is off, meaning that reassembly was done incorrectly or the coil is defective. Thanks; John at johnbethbrausch@aol.com

Is it still down? 2 months but no update. In reply to new coil not bad, new stuff does go bad all the time. My HT 101 coil died on first job, was replaced and now is fine. Did you see the broke ring. are you saying 1/8 ring gone or 1/8" of ring gone? You will have a gap, called ring end clearance. shape of ehd should tell if broken or not and gap. Did tech. set coil gap or did you? Let me know where you are on repair. and all work should be free for that as has great warrenty on electronics. Bill Czerkie

Motor runs but everything above motor does not work. how do I take pole from motor?

Either the drive shaft has broken or come detached from the clutch drum at the motor end or the attachment end.

I CAN'T REMOVE THE SPLINED SHAFT FROM MY STIHL HT101 POLE PRUNER.

Take it to an authorized repair center. Not what you want to hear but its better that way. It is a complicated ordeal that if you aren't trained for you can do damage to the shafts

I have a stihl pole saw ht101. The saw starts fine and runs for a minute or two, then loses power. What ido I check?

If you mean the engine is losing power your more than likely have a restriction in the exhaust. The sut from the two stroke mix builds up and restricts the exhaust gases. Hence looses power. Happened to me lots of times

I have a Stihl ht101 pole saw that is not oiling

Remove the bar and chain and run the saw. Does oil come out of the side port? If not, check the pump, lines, and in-tank filter. If ok, clean all the holes in the drive end of the bar including the small holes that pass oil to the chain slot. Compressed air helps here. Clean the chain slot. Oil the chain manually after assembly.
