Question about Whirlpool GH8155XM Microwave Oven
I have a sharp Carousel # r-930AK-f and the tray does not turn, and the microwave does not heat either with microwave or convection. I have tested the motor for the tray and applying 120 VAC, it turns slowly.
Have you check themostate/thermal fuse,1st. I would try to replace them first unless you can check/test it; fuse are 1.50 fairly cheap to replace. 2nd. if the fuses are good, the Magnetron will be faulty. this unit is the main source which create microwave cooking energy, 80 buck to replace and the motor, if its turn slow than usual, 22 buck to replace and you can do all the repair work your self and will last you many more years. you can order the parts though repairclinic.com. hope that help some good luck.

This is a throw away world anymore. There are usually no user servicable parts inside these appliances. There might be a fuse inside but most of them are soldered in and hard to find. The only solution that is readily fixable that I can see is if something is caught or stuck in the open door switch that would prevent the unit from starting properly. Find out where the door latches and check out the latch hole for something stuck inside and possibly clean that area.

Confirm 110-120 volts AC is entering the primary coil on the high voltage transformer....meter works but can be fooled, I usually rig up a light socket and household light bulb and hook that to the 2 input wires for the transformer and see if the light works or not when you run the microwave....can even set a power level and watch the light go on and off. Discharge the capacitor first before attempting any checks or tests.
Scary but works!....
If ok, put those 2 wires back on the transformer. Discharge the capacitor .
Remove the 2 wires going to the magnetron....run the microwave a few seconds ( 2-3 ) and remove power....again discharge the high voltage capacitor . If you got a good crack&spark when you discharge the cap the second time you are creating high voltage but not using it ( bad magnetron or loose High Voltage wire somewhere )....if you get no crack&spark you are not creating high voltage.
Several factors can cause sparks during operation. This should always be avoided because it can damage the system. Remove aluminum objects before cooking. Many utensils and plates have metallic trim that can create sparking. Sharp microwaves use a special interior paint that can cause problems if chipped. Repaint chips with an approved heat-resistant paint.
If the turntable is functioning but food is still not heated evenly, check these other causes. Interior walls should be cleaned often with detergent and water, and dried with a sponge. This will help the induction of waves. If a buzz emanates from the microwave that does not seem normal, the magnetron might be defective. This is the microwave generator and must be professionally repaired if damaged.
Most Sharp microwave models use sensitive touch controls. To avoid damaging these buttons, do not press with excessive pressure or use any object to manipulate the control. Doing so can puncture the touch membrane and break the internal switch.
