Even though Powermate generators are discontinued they still have a website with owners manuals at www.powermate.com.

SOURCE: I have a Coleman Powermate Pulse 1850 Generator.

Hi,
If the generator hasn't been used for awhile the rotor may have lost it's magnetism. All you need is to re-excite it. There are several websites that explain how to do this. It's a good place to start.

SOURCE: My coleman powermate generator will start but will not generate.

The voltage regulator controls the output. You will need to check that first.

I don't know what kind of oil the powermate 1850 uses

As with most briggs engines if you are operating in an area where the temp is below 20 degrees...use 5w-20 or 30. Between 0 to 100 use 10w-30. above that 10w-40 can be used but be sure to check the oil and temp often.

at which the engine is operated:
Summer: (temperatures of over 40 degrees F/10 degrees
C) SAE 30 or SAE 10W-30, SAE 10W-40
Winter: (temperatures of below 40 degrees F/10 degrees

Pull start recoil assembly

I bought a replacement recoil starter for my 1850 at Pats small engine parts. The part number for a 3.5 B & S is 499706. If you look on the heat shield on the side of the motor there is the engine model and s/n. Hope this helps.
