Put PS3 into idle mode (red solid light). Press and hold the power on button for about 5 seconds until you hear one beep. Then let go and wait to see if it now comes on.

its a bug in the latests update that caused the bluray to go nutts in basic terms... theres a few things to do, but if its allready 2 years old theres no warrenty on it anymore, so no matter what the 2 of my options will cost money, wich that cost the most i dont know.
but here they are :
1. Call Sony and have them take a look at it, they will charge a fee for it, about 150$ i think. 2. Get a BluRay unit yourself and replace the faulty unit. (guides can be found on youtube.) 3. Wait to Sony releases a fix for this. (wich may never happen. who knows)
and i know how frustrating it is... cause my ps3 is doing the same thing :( and i advise you to hang in and hope sony release a fix, cause theres no need to pay them for a mistake they caused, or thats my point of view.
whichever way u have it hooked up when u turn it on press and hold down the reset button for 5-7 sec.when u change the display from av to hdmi u need to reset the console.
Okay, I am now going through all the unsolved problems for which previously I had the same problems and now posting our solution. First, if you have no pic due to swiching of the cables (ie, cable av, hdmi) WHENEVER you switch your cable output, the ps3 also switches it's output. Make sure when there is no picture due to this problem to turn off the game console, then turn on, hold down the power button for approx. 5 SECs, there will be a BEEP. Let go of power button, the ps3 has then switched back to the output it is currently plugged in and will work. (ALSO sometimes you have to have ONLY the ps3 and tv hooked up) Hope this helped. I know how stressful this can be!
