hmm, 100$ to fix is really a bummer. and gamestop/EB wants to but it 4 60$.

My only suggestion is that it'll have to be fixed or replaced. Check your warranty options, or the return policy of the store you bought it at.

Call 1800-4my-xbox with your serial number (on the back of the unit) handy. Tell them the problem, when you bought the machine, and they should be able to suggest a solution. Since you've tried many different cables it's almost certainly and internal problem.

I have 4 red lights round the power button, is this a fault with the av cable as microsoft have suggested, or is worse

This is usually an AV problem but following these steps will allow us to figure out if it is something worse.

Your first step is to turn your XBox system off. After doing this, unplug both the AV cable from the back of the XBox as well as from the back of the TV. Plug them back in and turn on your system. If this works, you are in the clear-- if not, you have one more attempt that may work.

The second solution is to try a different AV cable. If a friend or relative has a compatible cable borrow theirs-- if not, go to your local Gamestop and see if they have one that you can purchase (you can always return it later).

If those two solutions do not work, the problem lies with the XBox and not the AV cable.

Hope this helps! Best of luck!

No screen but sound works perefectly

There might be a problem with the AV cables (Audio Visual) or theres more then 1 port for the AV cables to go. If there's more then one AV station on the TV try switching to the other ones.

We turn the tv and xbox on but there is no picture. We can hear the xbox power up and the tv works otherwise, but no visual for games.

is there sound? check the connections in the back of the tv. if you get red lights on the xbox, then it means a cable is loose some where. check the av swith on the av cord connected to the 360.

No picture on TV when Xbox 360 is turned on

For the most part, an XBOX will display a picture on the TV regardless of what the settings are. If there is no picture, it is most likely the cable or the XBOX output terminals themselves.
Since you have said that your friend's AV cable didn't work either, even though it did on his, we must assume that the problem is with the XBOX.
If the warranty is still on the console, call Microsoft and send it in. If it isn't either call Microsoft and see that they can do, or find an online repair shop that can help you.

If you need furthur assistance, feel free to ask. If this response helped you, please rate it!

I would reccomend checking both the TV's input jacks and the Xbox's output slot. If you got a new AV cable, then the odds that that cable are faulty are slim.

Try your new AV cord on a friends 360 if you have a friend with one. See if it works.

I found a microsoft troubleshooting Web Article that may help you solve your problem.

Re-post and tell me how it works out or if you need more help.

Hope this helped,

Xbox 360

If it has a hdmi cable and you or a friend has a tv compatible try and get a picture from their.
It sound that you might have a faulty cord for the video, or possibly the video drive has gone out on the 360, witch is a reported problem on many consoles.

Try to use b/g/r or the hdmi.
Is your switch on the correct location?
Av or High deff.

Good luck

No picture or sound on the tv

where you put the cables for the sound and picture if you look on the end where you plug it into the xbox 360 you will see a little switch it has HD and TV on it depending on what your tv supports (HD ready TV) (normal TV) switch that switch to what TV you have (e.g. HD TV, switch the switch to HD) if that doesnt work then try checking that you have all the cables in the right ports if you have pluged the HD cables into a normal TV then this is not going to work, check cables and check the switch!

No Picture with sound

Make sure the setting on the av cable is for tv or hdtv, whatever type of tv your using. I hit that switch so many times, its a pain.

Still not working, disconnect all cables then reconnect.

No visual on tv through 360

Do you have sound? and what are the cables set on HDTV or TV? If its set to HDTV and you dont have an HDTV then the picture will just be snowy and you will hear the sound of that game, just no picture. If this isnt it then it is your scaler chip which is an issue that MS needs to take care of or if you have a replacement plan you can use that as well.
