FLM 2632 No picture. Screen was blue but now is black.

The TV repair service says that the inverter is defective. It can not be purchased seperately [from Polaroid] from the control panel, which costs $900. I bought this Polaroid FLM 2632 model 2700 for about $300 when Circuit City was going out of business, over a year ago.
Does this seem right? I have no reason to doubt the service mans credibility and plan to abandon the TV with him.
