Bearing wear is the most common cause of belts running off. Use a straight edge to check that the pulleys are in line and true. You may need to replace bearings and/or pulleys.

Check to make sure you have the proper belt. The wrong one could be too long. Also check for a siezed pulley or that the belt is misaligned. Also check that all pulleys are still ligned up properly.

I have a zero turn radius mower it runs blades spin machine will not move. Is there a pulley tensioner to adjust?

There is a spring loaded idler pulley that keeps the drive belt tight. The spring selfs adjust it. But make sure your bypass valves are not release to roll it around. If the belt wears to thin it will hit the bottom of the pulley and will slip . I doubt both drive units went bad at the same time.

Yth2248 loses speed on slightest grade. new drive belt not helpful

Roy if it is the correct belt and fairly new, check your manual for belt adjustment, if it shows that there is no adjustment the pulleys may be worn out, on a lot of mowers the pulleys are ware items and changed more often to correct slipping issues. The other thing to check is the belt tensioner if equipped, it could be seized, weak or missing spring or it may even be adjustable by cable end being threaded or slotted bolt holes on tensioner arm.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

How to replace mower belt for ZTR cub cadet mower

Changing the Blade Drive Belts:
a.Set the parking brake. Remove ignition key and both spark plug caps.
b.Unscrew the wing nuts from the deck covers and remove both covers.
c.Using a 3/8" socket breaker bar or socket ratchet insert the drive end into the 3/8" square opening in the lower idler arm assembly and push the idler arm counterclockwise. While holding the idler arm back, loosen the blade drive belt from the pulley and slide the belt away from the pulley.
d.Remove tension of the PTO belt by moving the belt tensioning rod. Loosen the belt retaining bolt.
e.Pull the tensioner pulley away from the belt and remove the PTO belt then remove the blade drive belt.
f.Reverse the process to install the belt.

Honda mower drive cable

The drive belt may be worn and slipping on the pulley. (assuming it is a belt driven model). This would cause the mower to lose a great deal of power to the wheels. By adjusting the cable only, you are effectively adding a little more friction to the belt/pulley interface which in turn will provide a bit more power but the belt may still be slipping on the pulley(s) which is where you could still be losing the majority of your mowers self propulsion. Some Honda models may also employ a belt tensioner that simply adds tension to the belt even if the belt becomes stretched out & worn but the pulley's can become glazed (slippery). If it is a direct "pulley to pulley" drive with a single drive belt (no tensioner) the worn belt can also glaze the pulleys and cause further slipping. You can reface your pulley(s) contact surfaces with a very light grade wet sand paper (1000 grit), a coarse grade steel wool or a scotchbrite abrasive pad, thereby giving the belt more "purchase" on the pulley(s) contact surfaces. If you do perform a refacing of the pulley(s), it is strongly advised that you replace the drive belt as well. Your mower will then function as it did when it was new. Hope this helps.

1180 cub cadet replaced both drive belts length of belts is correct, mower still moves if foot peddle is not engaged.per manual set the adjustment of the drive pullys and the problem is still there.I have...

If you did not use the original manufacturer belts it will cause this as lawn mower belts are designed to slip when not under tension (so called graphite Belts) where other belts are designed not to slip even when some tension is lost.

Broken belt

This is actually pretty simple:

Remove Pto guard on mower deck

Stand mower up on back stands

Pull the friction disc away from the drive disc

slip new belt in between the friction disc and drive disc pushing all the way through

release friction disc allowing to come back in contact with drive disc

loop belt around engine pulley

let mower back down

route belt around mower pulley

loosen guides on idler pulley

route belt through idler pulley

with engine off move pto lever to tighten mower belt

adjust guides on idler pulley allowing 1/8" from belt

tighten bolt on idler pulley

release pto tension

install mower pto guard

and you should be ready to mow

I have a walk behind mower. The drive belt broke and I replaced it and now it wont pull itself. The wheels still spin if I lift it up but when I set it down it wont go anywhere

you must have a belt tensioner somewhere. Have a look near your belt pully or a idler pully that has an adjustment screw where you can tighten your belt to give grip. It appears the weight of the mower is causing the belt to slip hence it no moving because your belt /belts are slipping

Drive belt slips on lawn tractor, cannot see an adjustment.

hi,

i would check with the owners manual to see if it shows an adjustment for the belt drive. most mowers today are equipped with a self adjusting arm witha pulley tensioner with a spring attatched to it. as the belt stretches the tensioner spring pulls against the arm causing it to apply tension to the belt thus tightening it. it sounds as if your belt is stretched beyond the limits of the tensioner. at least every new season it would be a good idea to inspect the belt tensioner for room or space of free play. that is to check to see if it will move opposite the pulley allowing the belt to tighten. if there is not enough sufficient room then i suggest replacement of the drive belt.
