Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

1 Answer

Replaced timer and lid swith on an old kenmore. Stops at spray/spin cycle and before spin in a wash cycle (not all of them) if you touch the on/off knob it starts and continues the cycle. What would cause this?

11 year old Kenmore washer fills then stops.

in the machine under the front control panel will be a module that controls the wash agitation. Have it checked out as they fail . There is no connection between the timer and this unit as it comes in to play when the water reaches a set level. The timer just keeps working through the cycles believing the washer is agitating.

I am washing clothes in a borrowed Kenmore washer. It's probably 10 years old. It stops short of completing the Rinse cycle and never makes it to the Spin cycle. The bowl will start filling up w/ water,...

This is a typical problem with the "lid switch" on the washer. The lid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn't spin. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

My Kenmore wash cycle stops between rinse and spin

Hi, Does the washer fill in the rinse cycle and then stop? Does it fill and agitate before it stops? If you advance the timer manually past that point, will it finish the cycle?
Question I need to ask in order to help you.
Please let me know so I can assist you further.

Spin/drain cycle won't start

If the timer gets to the rinse cycle and stops,
Check the lid switch for continuity. If no continuity replace the lid switch.
If the timer continues through rinse and spin without doing either, replace the timer.

check your lid switch. if your lid swith is bad, it will fill and agitate, but will not pump or spin. therefore it will not go into rinse cycle without being able to pump out water. some lid swithes control the agitation also (usually frigidaire and older maytags), but i doubt yours does. you can check the lid switch for continuity while opening and closing the lid with a meter

Washer agitates, drains OK, but spin doesn't start

Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......

Timer stops at the end of wash cycle, won't began drain cycle

if it fills and agitates but stops at the drain/spin portion, it sounds like you have a problem with the lid switch. if it thinks the lid is opne, it will not drain or spin.
