Dear 15073327, Thanks for your kind help.

Probably I did not state my question clearly.
The problem is I have difficulties pre-viewing (not live pre-viewing) photos on the LCD while shooting pictures with my Digital Rebel XT. I know this model will not be possible to display a live preview of the intended image on the LCD, but it usually allows me see the pictue when I half-press the shutter button. Right now, I do not why I lost this function.

    Thanks again!

I know Rebel XT will not be possible to display a live preview of the intended image on LCD monitor screen, but I did preview the image before I take the picture. Just half-press the shutter button and I will see the iamge on screen. Right now, I lost this pre-view function. Do you know what is the problem?

    Thanks again!

Hi,

It might be that it accidently change the display time of the picture or turned it off. There is a setting that you can change to display pictures. Check if that might be the problem.

Cheers

Ok, so just to clarify was the preview before you take the picture or after you take the picture?

    Hi,

Sorry I can't find anything on how to preview. Only thing I could think of is the Depth Of Field preview but that probably is not it. I also only came across the hold function in the review settings that shows you your picture already taken until you half press the shutter button.
Sorry for not being able to solve your problem!!

    Cheers

No picture on LCD monitor when camera (rebel xt) is turned on

I am not sure what is the problem. You say no"picture"..is the screen totally black? Even when you try to preview photos in your camera memory? If so there is a problem with the hardware, LCD screen battery, or some other part.

If you mean you only see numbers and photo setting information on the LCD, that is normal for this Rebel models. The picture only appears in the viewfinder. It does not have a "live view' function to switch the image from the viewfinder to the LCD while you are shooting, as later model have. I have such a model and it is very disappointing.

When I turn my camera on, the lcd doesn't display. I can review an image though in the play mode. any ideas??

Rebel XT doesn’t have live view function. You cannot have picture on LCD when taking picture. If you can review the pictures and operate menu on LCD, your camera just fine.

Lcd monitor

On a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) like your Rebel, the shutter remains closed until you actually take a picture. The camera cannot display an image on the LCD since there is no way to preview one that has not been captured.

Rebel XT - LCD monitor.

The camera is a Single Lens Reflex (SLR). It is not possible to use the LCD display as a viewfinder. See Canon's answer here: CanonUSA

No, the so called 'live view' ( seeing pictures in real time on your LCD monitor ) is available only on the latest models that are coming out now ( Canon D40 and Nikon D3 and D300 have this feature ).

LCD monitor does not light up, and consequently, does not display any image (as some other digital cameras do) during the aiming and focusing processes - sort of prescanning the image - before the shutter...

to my knowledge digital slrs aren't supposed to show you the image on the screen before you shoot because the battery would get used up too quickly this is what the viewfinder is for and the lcd is purely there to tell you info on what the settings are and to view your pics after shooting, I have the 400d and its the same for that.Hope this helps
