Steve .. The 2510 doesnt come with an external speaker connection.. Please show me where it states that you have to have a license with the FCC to work on the radio 11 or 10 meter ham etc... transmit or otherwise??? Please

See: "§97.5 Station license required" and beyond for licensing information at:http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?rgn...

Steve. That page has nothing to do with repairing your own radio that is not being operated on a ship or airplane within the itu region 2 and if you actually read the the top of the page it is referencing PART 97—AMATEUR RADIO SERVICE. I am willing to bet he isnt a ham and the radio is modded for 11 meter. either way it doesnt matter.. if it is land based you can work on it.. legally. do you think the cb guys at the truckstops are licensed to work on radios?..

this is from the actual FCC site ... the link is below the copied paragraph...

You do NOT need a commercial radio operator license to operate, repair, or maintain any of the following types of stations:
Two-way land mobile radio equipment, such as that used by police and fire departments, taxicabs and truckers, businesses and industries, ambulances and rescue squads, and local, state, and federal government agencies.
Personal radio equipment used in the Citizens Band (CB), Radio Control (R/C), and General Mobile Radio Services (GMRS).http://wireless.fcc.gov/commoperators/in...

Hi Darrel,

Since you didn't say if you have ever used this radio successfully before, I have to assume it is "new to you" and that you have never seen it work or used one like it before. Start with a few basic settings below:

Turn Squelch to minimum.
Set RF Gain (if present) to maximum
Set Mode to AM or FM
Set volume to 1/3 up
Connect to 50 ohm dummy load.

Turn power on. Hopefully you hear static. If not, try SSB or FM. Still nothing? Try connecting to an external speaker.

Chnage back to AM or FM mode. Key mic check & for transmit indicator. If none, change mic or manually short the PTT contacts in the mic or at the radio to see if it can be made to xmit.

If no xmit - insert SWR meter between xmitter and dummy load. Try to xmit on AM or FM again while watching SWR forward power, if none indicated, xmitter is probably defective.

Replacing parts in a xmitter is not recommended. You'll need an FCC license and a fair amount of expensive test equipment to test repairs, set power levels and deviation and perform an alignment to be sure you aren't causing interference on other frequencies and bands.

You'd be better off bringing it to a radio repair shop for repairs and an alignment.

You dont need a license or certification to repair your own cb or ham land based radio transceivers..

  • Steve Jun 10, 2015

You're right for those types. Others types require a license. But even for ham, GMRS, MURS and most others you'll need an operator's license to actually transmit / radiate into something other than a dummy load.

Pretty sure it can be done but you need a wiring diagram for the radio pinout and the mic. Best leave it to a CB service shop.

I have a new cobra 148 with ssb, about 6 months old, while i was away there was a storm, now the radio doesnt work , recieve or transmit, i also have a cobra 29 ltd that wont transmit but it will recieve....

make sure the mic is good. If for some reason the mic went bad, it will not receive or transmit.

As for the one with no receive, it most likely needs a new final.

If lightning hit your antron, it would be in pieces.

President uniden hr 2510 ham radio

I know these are old posted questions but here are some new answers..... Simplest first! Make sure the TX button is not engaged, if it is then the radio will not work correctly.
Second would be a bad final or driver, this is a tough fix as these parts are tough to find, the parts are no longer made. A fix has been devised using MOSFETs but I have little details on this.
Third but not last is to do with age and environment, a glue was used to stabilize parts to the boards, wire and coils typically. This "glue" will break down over time and exposure to moisture and become conductive, shorting out parts and also corrosive, making copper wire and traces come apart.
Lastly, incorrect bracket knobs with screw threads too long can actually "crush" the PC board and break the PC copper traces.
Dropping the radio is not good, cracked boards and broken wires in hidden places.
Repairs can be made on all these but you need a tech that has experience to find these.....
