Dell Inspiron 1545 AC Adapter error message

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and I used to get an error message saying something about using a genuine Dell ?v ac adapter etc etc.
As I didn't have any problems using my laptop and my battery was charging fine I turned the error message off. However my laptop has now stopped charging and can only be used with the adapter so I would like to turn the error message back on so that I can explain the problem accurately to Dell.

If anyone is having the same problem please can you tell me the instructions for turning the actual error message back on (I'm sure it explained this when it gives you the option to stop seeing the error message at start up but I stupidly didnt write it down!)

Thanks!

-check the system battery information and charger information of the computer; restart the computer, while the computer is booting up, press F2 repeatedly; check "battery info"
-if it stated ac adapter = unknown device ; update the BIOS (-visit support.dell.com
NOTE:other computers may have different BIOS, if it is not the same you may have to consult manufacturer
-click on drivers and downloads
-click or choose by service tag

-check information after updating; if same message AC adapter = unknown device; call manufaturer for a replacement AC adapter, if status has changed it is a battery problem or motherboard, contact manufacturer to test battery

Generally the AC adapter is not being recognized. You should be able to rest BIOS defaults and the message should come up again.
Test with a known good ac adapter, see if the battery charges. If not, then it is the MB, if known good charges, then the AC adapter

Clear the BIOS event log, you should get the error again. If available, try a different Dell AC adapter and see if the battery charges. If the battery doesn't charge, even without the error message Dell should assist you.

EXACTLY what is the error-message or error-code that you get?

At what time do you get the code? When you press the ON button?
When it tries to load Windows? When you are using Windows?

I have had problems finding a power cord that works. The original cord died and replacements give eroors

If you are not using a Dell Branded power cord, the system will give an error due to non-Dell AC adapters do not have the sensing circuit needed for the system to ID the adapter.
If you are using Dell Branded replacement AC adapters, then you most likely have a bad power connector on the motherboard.
