SOURCE: Error C50 on Lexmark X6170 printer

You correct about that dmattia! Most manufactures put small chips in the ink cartridges. The driver software knows when you have inserted a re-filled "same cartridge". Hence you get an error.
Theres one way around this wall.
Keep at least two emptied cartridges. (Prefered three).
Go ahead & refill them & store them standing up so the nozzle does not dry out. Rotate your replacements. This works with HP's printers. With the HP's printers it's suggested to rotate three cartridges. This should work for Lexmark as well.

Enjoy!

SOURCE: lexmark X6170 hardware error 0502

Hi there

On the multi function machine seems to be a coating on the metal rod that the cartridges travel on. Just wipe this rod with a Kleenex and the problem seems to go away.
Somehow it presents a drag on the cartridges and causes an error.
Myself I would put a little bit of oil after on a cloth and wipe along the bar.

Please all I ask is call back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one, so I will keep on helping.

Lexmark X6170 shows cartrige error error 50C how do I correct the problem

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue:

1. Make sure the printer is on.

2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy.

Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer/unplug the printer from the power source and then slide the carrier to the center.

3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.

4. Close the printer cover.

5. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.

6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first.

7. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.

8. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.

9. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new cartridge.

I have upgraded to Windows 7 and my Lexmark X6170 will print but not scan. I need the scanner badly. Please advise on solution.

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

1. Disconnect the printer from your computer.

2. Rebrick (pull out power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds).

2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.

3. Delete the Lexmark print object.

4. Reboot your pc.

5. When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.

6. Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list again, then try to print again.

Lexmark X6170 All in One Printer

So many things this could be. I would try the basics first. Turn it off, unplug it, see if it resets itself. Is the power supply it is plugged itno ok? You can test this by trying thr printer from another socket. Power boards are notorious for shorting out with lots of equipment attached. If it is plugged into a powere board try resetting the boards switch too (make sure all is unplugged first!!! Next if no good i would try uninstalling it and reinstalling it. If you do not know how to do this let me know and i will talk you throught this. This corrects alot of issues. WE can explore other issues if these things do not work. I am hoping it is not the power supply that has died on thr printer.

LexMark 6170 Encoder strip came off

unplug the unit. Move carrier to middle. Gently press down on either end of the carrier, you are moving it down and a bit forward then let it go back up, this will get it back going again. It should now be back in slot. cheers lilacgerry xxx If you get error 502 or similar, clean the roller and coating with a lint free cloth or unscented wipe.
