Re: Dell

You need to consider reinstallin another one. Better still you need to buy a plug and play drive with a USB port and a good antivirus system. Best yet, you need to consider upgrading to a CD/DVD or a flash drive storage system. They are more modern, with more storage space and good plug-n-play mechanisms

Does it work, if you install the disk-drive into a computer?
If not, then the drive is "dead", and needs to be replaced.

The below is on the basis that the drive is visible in "Computer"...

This can be tow thing, one the drive is not receiving enough power from your USB port, try unplugging any addtional USB devices connected to the PC, if this doesn't work try a powered USB hub. Second the floppy disk is faulty or the drive itself is faulty.

Hope this helps, let me know how it goes.

I got a new cimputer with windows 7, will my webcam work on it? Cann't find anything about windows 7, on instructions.

It should. Most webcams do not require any additional drivers or software. Just plug it in and see if Windows 7 sees it.

How do you "turn on" or make newly installed memory work on a laptop computer

upon boot-up the system automatically detects the amount of memory installed, if for some reason the amount of memory installed it's not the same with the amount detected there might be a problem with the placement of the modules or the system simply does not support either the module, quantity or type of memory. (if you're talking about system memory eg. SDRAM/DDRAM).

Windows Pro XP will not recognize external floppy drive made by Smartdisc. I was given a Dell C8xx floppy drive, however it requires a special cable connector and not a USB

Check Ebay for the proper cable for the Dell floppy drive. Only a few dollars and plenty of them. All of the floppy cable will work on your C800. Note: the floppy cable is not the same as the CD cable. They do not interchange. You must get a floppy cable.
XP will recognize a USB floppy once XP is installed, but you won't be able to boot from it to install XP since the USB drivers aren't installed until Windows is installed.

HD format

Hi, Your idea is basically correct. Other alternatives are: 1. Boot from and run Basic MS-DOS or FreeDOS with disk utilities in the FDD of the PC where the HD(s) installed. Set to boot first in FDD in the CMOS/BIOS; 2. Run MS-DOS or FreeDOS with disk utilities in a CD in the CD ROM of the PC where the HD(s) installed. Set to boot first in FDD in the CMOS/BIOS; 3. Use an external enclosure to connect the IDE & power connections of the HDs to a USB port of another working Windows PC. Is is similar to your idea but you need not open up the 2nd PC nut would require the interface device. Hope this be of some help/idea. post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
