If you had to push the tray up hard, it could just be that the sensor is now mis-aligned and not detecting the draw is closed. You can check the voltages from the sensor to determine if the sensor is switching. Get yourself a service manual for the printer (aaprox £3.50/ $7.00) to help you get to the sensor and test it's funtion.
