Re: Tv cuts off reset it will come back on fan makes...

Here's something that might also be useful. After you turn on the set, and get the regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.

For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.

Here are the error codes, and the corresponding problem:

12 = No error detected, check power supply.
32 = Lamp Cover is open.
33 = Air filter cover is open.
34 = Lamp abnormality
36 = Light Engine (DMD or Lamp Fan stopped)
37 = Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped
38 = Lamp Temperature High
39 = DMD Temperature High
41 = Short is detected
44 = DVI cable between FMT and Engine disconnected

Samsung dlp tv HLP5663W makes loud noise

Yes, the set uses a color wheel and the lamp faces it.

The wheel turns at over 8,000 rpm and is well known for this problem=bearings in the tiny motor go bad.

The high pitched or fan like noise (classic description) is this part.

Sooner or later the wheel (plastic colored segments) will shatter and set will shut down lamp and not operate---set monitors the speed of the wheel so if it slows down or stops it knows.

The part is readily available on the internet (Google the model number with "color wheel").

This can be a do it yourself repair and You Tube has video instructions for replacing the wheel by model number.

There are two common pitfalls to avoid which the instructions that come with the replacement part usually do not mention---if you decide to do this repair let me know and I will explain.

Heard a loud pop noise and the tv cut out. Left it off to cool down and turned it back on but no sound or picture. The green light was on and the fans attempted to start but then shut down

Easy one. Your lamp needs replaced. part number is labeled on the lamp itself and is easily accessed from the rear of the TV. Approximately 6" lamp cover removes with a few screws then a couple more for the lamp. Simply pull out and replace. Cost for the lamp is around $219. Make sure to replace with OEM parts.

It is either the color wheel or a fan. To isolate the color wheel, remove the back cover and make sure you put the lamp door back on so that the door interlock switch is activated. Turn the set on and get the picture and humming noise going. Just to left of the rear fan there are some wires. One is a really flat brown or rust colored ribbon cable that plugs in to a board on the left of the wires. This is the color wheel ribbon. When you unplug it the set will keep going for a moment or two but if the noise stops, you will know it is the color wheel. Don't be alarmed because the set shuts off with this ribbon disconnected. Just let all the fans stop (for proper cooling) and then unplug the set for 5-10 minutes. If the humming did not stop you have a bad fan motor. Plug the little ribbon back in while you have the set uplugged. Plug the set back in and turn it back on and try to isolate which fan it is, if it is a fan. If you determine it is a color wheel, the light engine will have to be replaced as Toshiba does not offer just the color wheel. If it is a fan, those can be replaced. I hope this helps. Let me know what you find and thanks for using fixya.

Samsung HLN5065W 50 in. Rear Projection HDTV-Ready

With the back off of the set it will shut off. There is a lever it engages to prevent the set being operated with the back off.

The color Wheel will cause a fan like or high pitched grinding noise. I can tell you where to buy it and also there are on the internet places with written and VIDEO instructions for the replacement in most of these sets.

Put the back on and see if the set again works and still has the noise.

If this helped you, rate this as I do this here for FREE.

My Sansung HL-S4266W just shut off one evening while watching. It had all 3 lights blinking and it had been over 3 years since buying the tv. I replaced the bulb, nothing changed the tv would still turn on...

this could be the color engine or a power supply problem. My suggestion is to not put anymore money into this tv, its an old technology and you will be replacing parts for it every 3 or so years. eventially the parts will not be able to be found. Go get a new tv, save yourself money and headaches.

TV turns off after aboiut 2 hours of uninterrupted play

There is a software patch availabe to increase the thermal cut off temperature. Can only be programmed using the Loewe Cablemax kit. Another solution is that the fans at the back all blow into the tv, reverse one of these fans, this gives a flow through the cavity. Remember to remove the filter from the one you reverse.
