Definitely sounds like you have a bad CCD. Good news for you though, this particular model has been recognized by Canon to have a faulty CCD and will repair or replace your Canon A95 free-of-charge.

From Canon website:

"U.S. residents are kindly directed to contact the Canon Customer Support Center for further assistance at 1-800-828-4040. Support hours are Monday thru Friday - 8:00 AM to 12:00 midnight; and Saturday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (all times EST). Alternatively, if electronic support is preferred, please send your email to".

Explain to them you have a bad CCD on your Canon A95 digital camera and that you are interested in having it serviced by them under the recall.

SOURCE: Too bright picture with white lines in them

I suggest you to write a letter to Canon and to contact your local service dealer. After some struggling, they accepted the warranty claim and repaired my camera free of charge. The problem appeared when the camera was 23 months old.

This is a problem with shutter not fast enough opening to take a picture indoor shows the horizontal lines. In sun light it is too slow and over expose the picture. Not worth the trouble to fix, buy another camera?

When i take pictures, horizontal lines appear and brightness is more

From what you said - it sounds more like a sensor problem in the camera.
If the screen looks OK while sizing up a picture , then 'click' Image is stored on sensor which is read as one LARGE matrix of dots and stored into memory.
If the white lines start at this point - ie. viewing the picture while in camera and then after download.
Then, the problem started at the sensor.
I just did a ( and did a search for problems - and NONE apart from Wi-Fi connections to Windows7 -- all reviews were great.
I would connect Nikon to see what they recommend

The pictures turn out either as an all white screen or with lines running horizontally accross the image

This is due to the shutter not completely closing over the lens or not firing at all. The live view on the screen looks perfectly all right because the sensor is fine. The video function should work fine as this does not use the shutter, indicating the fault lies with the shutter mechanism or more commonly the shutter leafs are stuck because of moisture residue building up.

When taking pictures outside the view screen after picture taken appears as a bright burst of white light. Inside picture appear fine. Any ideas?

let me see if i understand. if you llok at the screen it looks ok, but after you take the picture it will record only a white bright image.....

in some cases you can easily fix this by goining into your camera option and restoring default settings. it is the exposure setting .

if you camera still giving you just black white images the light sensor in the machine ahs gone bad, it needs to be replace.

Picture comes up with horizontal lines

The viewfinder is failing, or it may be a bad flexiboard, or ribbon assy. The proof is that the pictures look okay, but the viewing is not proper.

If you want it serviced, you will have to send the camera to the Sony authorized service rep. They will be able to change the necessary parts and re-adjust as required.

Horizontal White Lines in Pictures

I don't think [and the museum will certainly say] This has anything to do with the X-ray/storage whilst in the museums hands. It could be a processing error or a memory card error. Try formatting the card in the camera and taking a new batch of images Try another card. This will estasblish card or camera. If card - buy another card If camera -checxk on the price of a repair but I suspect it will mean when you see the price Buy another camera
