Many times the older version drivers will work as new released operating systems try to be backwards compatible with software. Try loading the XP software or search the Canon website for updated software for your model.

for your model of camera there is no driver for xp...the windows xp operation system is not supported..but for vista and windows7 the drivers are already included into the operation system .... if you have vista or 7 and still unable to see and download teh picks...try to install a photo manager ..like ACDsee (available on net a free download) no 9 and use the import from device feature ...if the files are on the camera memory and not on the card ...just remove the card to be sure that locates the camera memory photos... by the way ...if you do use a card for this camera and the photos are on it ...do not use the cable ...and remove the card and use a card reader to download them for windows XP..if you do not have one ...try on ebay ..there are a lot of cheap ones ..about 5 bucks...and multi functional...usb based..
I would take out the SD memory card and use it with a
card reader like this one: http://bit.ly/5fruhB . You simply take out
the SD memory card and put it in the card reader. Then put the usb end
of the card reader into your computer and download the pictures that way.I also recommend that you download Picasa, a free photo organizer/editor
for your pictures: http://bit.ly/5f6HEt This way you bypass the lousy
nikon software altogether. Hope that was helpful, Take Care, -WN
Hi, Sounds like a compatibility problem related to Vista. If your pics are stored on a camera card then i recommend that you purchase a card reader/writer and pop the camera card in that to transfer the pics to the computer. They are very cheap at around $2( £1) and you can get them anywhere from places like PC World, radio shack etc.
When connecting a digital camera to your computer with the usb connector, then turning it on the memory card in the camera becomes a removable drive under My Computer and will also bring up a dialogue window that will ask if you want to import pictures, etc. There is no need for a driver. This camera does not require a driver on windows XP. The most common cause of USB related communication issues is the USB cord itself. Second most common cause is the USB port on the camera as they are easily damaged.
You can fix the problem by buying a USB card reader instead of plugging the camera directly into your PC. If you use the camera's USB port it will eventually fail, they simply can not last through years of plugging and unplugging and the bumping around associated with use of the on board USB port.
With the card reader you simply remove the memory card from the camera, plug it into the reader and then proceed to get your pictures. It is simple, reliable, and all around the best solution to this and all problems related to communicating with your camera over USB.
Take out all all software that you have installed and drivers .
See if Vista will see it on its own.
Strictly speaking cameras being USB devices do not need drivers or any other software.
Just let Windows[Even Vista] do the work.
Though having said that Vista is in big trouble with stuff that do need drivers.
