My washer creates a thumping when it goes into spin mode and sometimes it won't spin at all can it be a belt slipping?

GLEH1642DS1 FRONT LOAD STACKABLE WASHER MAKING LOUD THUMPING NOISE IN SPIN CYCLE & SQEALS WHEN i STOP IT

Sounds like you have an unbalanced load. I know this sounds too easy but lots of times this is the issue. If it doesn't help then you could have a bearing issue where the belt goes around a pully under the tub itself. If so you will have to replace the pully itself and perhaps the belt if it's gotten worn too much.

Dryer wont spin

About 90+% of the time when a dryer won't spin it is a broken/slipped belt.
If the dryer makes some niose when activated, then the motor is turning, which exonerates the
motor, leaving just the belt - the belt may have slipped off a (possibly broken) pulley.

My duet front load washer wont spin in drain spin mode. The drain pump goes but it wont spin. I emptied the large filter just under the door behind the front pannel, It still wont spin. Plenty of water...

If your washer doesn't drain or spin, you may read and learn what parts may cause this. First, you will want to check your water pump. You need to make sure it is working. Make sure you check the belt on the pump. Make sure it is not broken or loose. Also, make sure your pulley is not stuck in place. Sometimes, they will stick or barely turn at all. If this is the case, you will need to replace it. If the pump, pulley, and belt are working, make sure your motor is working. You should be able to hear it if it is. If it isn't, check your lid switch. The lid switch can cause the motor to not work. It may need adjusted. If not, go ahead and change it. A bad lid switch may cause the washer to not work at all. Now, if your pump is pumping and the washer still won't spin, you will want to check your belt and clutch. Once again, the belt may be broke or loose. Check to make sure your clutch is not worn also. This may be a case of a bad lid switch again as well. You could have a bad drive motor. This is what controls spinning, draining, and agitation. You could have a broken motor coupler. Over time, they will go bad and need replaced. It is possible that your transmission is slipping or damaged. And lastly, you could have a bad basket drive ir spin bearing. This is what allows the inner tub to move. If this is the case, you will probably hear loud sounds or loud banging. I want to thank you for reading and I hope this helps you. My washer mad three loud thumps and then would not spin at all. It will pump the water out but will not spin. Do you think it is the belt. Thanks helyn

The belt might have slipped off the pulley. But when you mention that you heard loud thumps before it stopped spinning is a sign that something else might have gone wrong with your machine. With the washer turned off, turn the wash drum by hand and listen for any noises. It should turn quietly without any kind of thumping noises. Also look how the drum turns. It should turn smoothly and not wobble as it turns. If it wobbles or makes thumpiing noises, it means that the support arms are broken.

Reparing the support arms is an expensive repair, unless it is still under warranty, it not worth fixing. Get a few estimates before deciding to repair or replace it.

Washing machine spins slowly and smells of burning rubber

The belt could be worn and will be slipping on the pullys, as it spins up the rubber , rubs against the pullys and that is what creats the burning rubber smell, the belt needs replacing.

sounds like the belt needs to be tighter. sounds like its slipping on pully. that may be why its not spinning correctly.

Thumping/knocking/rattles during wash agitation cycle

Mine is doing the same thing. I opened it up to see what was happening and it was the drive belt tension arm bumping around. Soon, the belt started slipping during the spin cycle. Now it won't spin and the belt starts to smolder from the friction of the drive motor. If you haven't checked your belt, that's a good place to start.

GE Washer Spin Cycle Problem

gnarly, do you have the updated motor, harness and start cap? If it goes into spin and does this chunk a chunka chunka bit. Take a meter to the white and white/red wire going to the motor. If you have a steady 120V, replace the motor with the new kit. What the motor is doing is jogging between high to low speed. Catriver..post back.
