You didn't run the EXE that comes on the drive.
I made the same mistake, but did a windows format before running it, so I lost the exe.

Why does my new 500gb lacie setup say 375.7 MB, Zero free?

Hi Anon
I think this is the setup disk, your 500gb disk will have have hundreds of gigabytes of free space, remember that 375.7 MB is roughly a third of 1 gigabyte.

ONLY 650 MB OUT OF ONE TERABYTE lacie all terrain

For anyone else that runs into this issue, you don't need the EXE.

Follow the instructions on here to get to the Storage control panel area on your computer so you can view partitions:
http://www.ehow.com/how_5022760_check-partitions-hard-drive.html

Locate your LaCie drive, and delete the small partition that shows as "Healthy". Once you delete that, you should have a large "Unallocated" space. Format that normally using either FAT32 or NTFS. Your drive will now have its full allocation (which with a 500GB drive, should be around 465GB, give or take depending on the system accessing it).

You may have partitioned your hard drive. Have a look at your Computer Management Console by right clicking My Computer > Manage. Then under Storage, select Disk Management.

On a computer you have MG & GB. What is Tb for memory? Also how big is this TB compared to GB? Is it reliable for memory space? Lori

Mb, Gb, Tb all refer to memory size. How reliable these storage devices depends upon the quality of the device and how they are used and handled.
1 Mb = 1,000,000 bytes
1 Gb = 1000 Mb
! Tb = 1000 Gb

1 TB Rock Mobile External Harddrive capacity

No. It is not that way. how it is read is as under: 1 K is 1024 bytes 1 MB is 1024 K bytes 1 GB is 1024 MB 1 TB is 1024 GB. As per books. BUT, when it comes to selling HDDs 1 TB is 1000,000,000,000 bytes. the extra 24 bytes at each lelvel have been overlooked. Thats where you loose so much of disk space.

Upgrade Possible?

Hey Al,
The internal Drive is a standard 3.5 inch IDE 7200RPM unit. you can indeed upgrade this to a 1TB drive as long as it's IDE wether 2.5 or 3.5. Luckily when Lacie was originally offering these drives you could get these in 1TB, so that won't be an issue.
