Re: lens cap

Apparently this same problem exists on many different models. I have a JVC grd72u. I called JVC @ 800-252-5722. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" prompt from the automated attendent. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of the problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call ASAP and get your name in the computer. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call you with the estimate to repair.

My camera has a black LCD screen and Lens view. I can play video but I can't record anything but audio. This problem is going On and OFF since guarente expire. I don't want to pay $88 for service every 6...

your camcorder unit uses a lens cap as a basically when you turn it on it should be ready to take the video right away. i am sure your able to see the display indicators and access the menu settings. if get a black screen and viewfinder when recording, and can record audio and playback previous tapes you've recorded then that would mean your cam has an problem with the imaging sensor. you can try to press the reset button (located near the left side of the battery and display buttons) while cam is on. or do power reset by turning cam off and removing the battery and ac adapter (do this for at least a minute). if your still having this problem, unit will require repair (but if you don't want to replacement would be another option).

Does not record in doors or in low light. very dark display

It sounds like you may have the the camera in manual mode or that the Iris may be turned down. I am not sure if you model has an Iris control so make sure it is not in manual mode.

Camcorder says lens cap on when not on

This is a known fault, JVC recalled a lot of these camcorders in 2007. They were manufactured with defective components. Contact JVC customer Services and demand a replacement.

Can record audio only. camera thinks lens ca is on when it is not

It is probably a problem with the lense. it might be malfunctoining. If it's still under warrenty i suggest taking it back and getting a new one. Or there might be some dirt or dust inside the cameralense.

Display is black even after removing the lens cap

See my post of before. I just knocked the camera on the floor by mistake and it miraculously started working again after years. Shows it must be mechanical and not related to software.

JVC Digital Video Camera GR-DVL107E

Assuming you don't see any video through the viewfinder, it could be that the CCD has died on that camcorder. It happens, though not frequently.

If the video though the viewfinder is clear, there might be some sensor on the lens ring to indicate a lens cap, or an automatic lens cap not properly disengaging when put in record mode.
