Question about Agfa DuoScan T1200 Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

Just bought it second hand - risky I know, but am having trouble.... Will it run with XP? It seems to turn on then a loud click and just stops. Feeling a little stupid - it could be a simple problem...

Thanks, yes I had released the screw and have downloaded the driver, however the scanner traveller (?) moves briefly until a microswitch kicks in a small arm that prevents further travel. It sits for a while and tries to repeat the process...

Yes it will run with XP as long as you have a SCSI driver and FastSCSI connector.

Download the latest available driver and manual at the following AGFA Support link

Make sure that the carriage is unlocked before powering it up.

1 . Pull the scanner carefully over the edge of the table until you can see the
unlocking screw at the bottom of the scanner .
2 . Take a coin and turn the screw a quarter turn counter clockwise .
The screw comes loose and your scanner is unlocked .
3 . Move the scanner back on your desktop . Allow a minimum of 10 cm ( 4 inches )
around each side of the scanner and a minimum of 15 cm ( 6 inches ) at the
rear of the scanner .

If this is not the problem than if it does nothing then it may be the carriage is jammed or simply cannot move to the 'home' position. Some gentle investigation with the carriage assembly will let you know if things are OK but make sure you are gentle with it otherwise you will need to realign it and that is much more difficult.

The scanner needs to find a 'home' position when it starts up and can effective move down the scan page line until it hits the microswitch which tells it to stop and go back until it sees either an opto switch or reference mark which may be another microswitch and this is what tells the scanner that it is at the home position.

    Also re SCSI:

    1. After opening the Scan dialog box, a message appears telling that no scanner is connected, although the scanner is connected.

    2. Check the Installation procedure, to see if you followed the instructions. Pay special attention to the setting of the SCSI ID number.

    3. Maybe you did not wait long enough for all SCSI devices to startup, before you switched on your workstation. Therefore, try restarting your workstation.

    4. Disconnect all SCSI devices and connect them one by one, beginning with the scanner, to identify the device that causes the problem. Check if your terminator has been set correctly and restart your workstation.

    5. Make sure that your devices have different SCSI ID numbers. If there are devices with the same number, assign a different number to each device.

Loud bang, then drop in power, now car running rough!

Get a compression tester and find out if you blew a cylinder. You'll need to test all cylinders. Your most likely running on 7 cylinders instead of 8 or 5 instead of 6 if you have the V-6.

My Dell600 won't power on with or without A/C adapter

If the unit was a Brand New purchased, and still 4 months old, its better to avail the "warranty" of the unit, to save you from any trouble. But if it is a second hand without any warranty, you can eithertake this risky step or submit it to a certified service center.
The risky step is to open your laptop, and check the "charger terminal" for loose contact, or solder detached terminals.
