Question about Quintum Tenor BX408 (501015800) 1x10/100 Mbps Networking Switch

2 Answers

I have just purchased a 2nd hand Quintum Tenor BX408. It all works, I can run the initial configuration wizard and set and IP address etc etc. I am installing it between our Ericcson BP250 PBX and the Telco. So configuration is 2 x ISDN BRI ports from the Telco to the Tenor then 2 x ISDN BRI ports from the Tenor to the PBX. ISDN ports with the Telco establish with no problems. ISDN ports with the PBX show Amber LEDs on the front panel. Further investigation shows that Layer2 is not coming up on the ISDN. I've tried a lot of things but I just cant seem to get this to work. You should know that I've enabled power-off bypass on the ports. When the Tenor is powered off the PBX works just fine and makes and receives calls. Appreciate nay assistance.

Here's the output from the "Support Information" section in the config manager. If you need output from the CLI can you assist with the correct commands. I'm a newcomer to Quintum.

You'll notice the "Established Awaiting TEI" on port 2/2 and 2/4. Note that If I set the TEI value to say 24 rather than 64 it gets to the next stage in the layer 2 handshake saying "Established Awaiting".

    Thanks,

    David.

One more thing. It's not in production yet and it's on a public IP at the moment so I'm happy to give you access if that helps.

As you can see the status changes, but only slightly. The Quintum manual says that 64 is the value for auto-negotiation of the TEI. So it should work at 64. Anyway as you can see it still doesn't work at 32.

    Regards,

    David.

Thanks, but the problem is not with the Telco provider side. That is working fine and the ports seem to negotiate the TEI just fine. The problem is with the BRI connections to the Ericcson PBX. They are the ones with problems.

    Here's the configuration:

Telco BRI Line 1NT ---> Tenor Port 1 TE
Tenor Port 2 NT -------> Ericcson PBX TE

Telco BRI Line 2 NT ---> Tenor Port 3 TE
Tenor Port 4 NT --------> Ericcson PBX TE

The Tenor Ports 1 and 3 to the Telco have green status LEDs on the front panel.

The Tenor Ports 2 and 4 to the PBX have amber status LEDs on the front panel.

I've tried disabling the BRI termination as you suggest but that just gives a layer 1 fault and the front LEDs go RED.

I've also tried swapping the ports Telco <> PBX and their associated configs. The problem moves with the ports with the Telco ports working fine so it doesn't seem to be a fault with the ports.

We are in Australia so the ISDN standard we use here is ETSI not NTT.

I suspect I'm just not setting it up correctly somewhere.

    Appreciate your assistance.

    Regards,

    David.

Its the connection issue that is sure.but you will have to check line by line. ISDN BRI (uses one B channel for ISDN BRI (uses one B channel for voice and second B channel for data). .keep updated.

Please do a Show ISDN Status on both situation, copy and paste, and publish the result here. When Layer 2 is active it must show multiple frame established instead of just active. Line must be something like this: TEI = 91, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = MULTIPLE_FRAME_ESTABLISHED

Hi, I could connect CLI via Telnet, but we are not supposed to provide remote support assistance, and I can get in troubles down here.

Regarding your problem, what does happen if you set port at let say 32 instead of 64. 64 is just the TEI port number default value. If any other function is assigned to port 64, this may not work.

    Ginko Sep 29, 2009

64 is the default value, it may not work with BRI setting for your provider.

To change BRI using the configuration manager go to to Circuit Configuration > Signaling Configuration > ISDN Signaling Groups >
ISDN Signaling Group-n > General tab.
    - From the Protocol drop-down box, select BRI NTT.

In BRI check also termination setting. Try using with termination set.

To disable Termination in Configuration Manager, follow these steps:
    - Navigate to BRI Configuration - Digital Interface-n > Channels tab.
    - Click the checkbox in front of Termination.

Try also calling your provider, and checking settings with the technician at the phone. you may be using incorrect BRI settings.

If the unit is second hand, and you get problem only on layer two, the unit can also be defective.

The CM stands for "Configuration Manager", in other words, that is the GUI. The Tenor firmware either starts with a P or an S (e.g. P104-11-00 or S105-01-01)

There are 6 potential volume adjustments for an Analog Tenor.
Rx & Tx at the Phone, Line & IP - Adjust them carefully, 1 dB at a time. There are some tests that can be run to test impedance too, which will ultimately affect audio quality.

I hope that you have solved this by now, but the only way to be certain about what exactly happened is by reading event log trace. Your Quintum Reseller should have this knowledge.
