Question about Bissell 9200 Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

The brushes on my Bissell 9200 have stop rotating. The microswitch near the wheel seems to be OK. How can I troubleshoot the problem?

Do you know where I can get a circuit diagram from? I would like to prove that the motor is broke before I purchase a new one. The mircoswitch is OK, but the user manual mentions a mirco switch that will turn the brushed off if an object is trapped in them, also there is an EMI filter near the motor?

If the belt is still OK and you can turn the brush by hand (make sure the power is off when you try) then there is only the drive motor and the power switch left in the circuit. Bissell's are very simple machines and you can easily remove the topc over with about 6 screws so you can get at the insides and spares are easily obtained.

You can check the motor and EMI filter with an ohm meter - with the power turned off. Also with the power turned on you can measure the voltage on both sides of the EMI filter - it should be the same. Measure the voltage across the motor to make sure power is getting to it OK. Also check that the microswitch is working correctly by measuring the voltage at both terminals then trigger and release the switch to see that it cuts and restores the power.

The brush roll motor is most likely bad (part #2036757). You will have to take it aprt and check it.

Make sure you have released the handle, as if you wanted to push the machine forward. If the handle is locked upright, the brushes do not spin.

If they still don't spin, you may have a broken belt. Look carefully at the base, on each side. As I face the front of mine, on the right side of the machine, a small belt goes around one brush and a small cog wheel. On the left side, a larger belt goes around both brushes. If either belt is broken, the brushes will not spin. This can happen if you let gunk build up inside the clear plastic side pieces or around or above the brushes. It's very important to constantly be cleaning your Bissell. The belts can be ordered online and replaced. See your owner's manual.

SOURCE: The rotator brush stopped turning. it turns fine

The brush roll will only spin when your handle is not in the locked upright position, once the handle goes upright - the brushroll de-activates

The roller brushes do not rotate. The motor is running and the suction seems fine.

Are the brushes free of threads, lint, pet hair? If not, this can stop them from rotating. Check the outer edges near the wheel case as well. You can use tweezers to remove all the "tangler" stuff! I hope this helps. If it does, please rate my suggestion. Thanks.

Brushes are not turning both belts are fine Are the belts air driven like the hand tools seem to be.

electric driven, usually hair gets wrapped around inside around the edges of the brushes enough to stop the motors. Take it apart and find out.

Roller won't turn when vacuuming

If was foxed by that one too. There is a microswitch or device that detects it the unit is upright - it inhibits the roller motor.
Soon as you lower the arm the rollers go around.....if not then it must be a fault.

I assume you checked the belts to see if any cogs were stripped of of the belt. If ok, then I wuld suspect the brush roll motor, it is any inexpensive part and doesn't take much for it to fail. Undo the top so you can get to it and unhook the belt and see if it still shuts of, if it does, ten replace it, it it doesn't, then there is a problem with brush rolls or belts.
