I have always found Sony live support extremely helpful. Until you hear from a real expert, just give them a call--I bet they will tell you how to do it.

Boot into bios, setup to start on a cd.
Burn from another machine first:
a WinPe, BartPe, Ubuntu, Knoppix, etc. Bootable CD.
Boot with any of these and see what happened to your files.
You never even stated what OS you had.
Sounds 2 hot.

Error code 10 XXXXXXX is related to hardware. It is default code generated by device manager when the operating system failed to determine which specific error code to return after an error occurs.
Error code 10 error pertains mainly to hardware issues and to compatibility issues between hardware and the software.
To troubleshoot the code 10, go to control panel>system> device manager and check if any of the hardware display a yellow “!” or a red “stop”.
1). Update the hardware device driver from either Microsoft or device vendor web site.
If the device is preinstalled on the computer, visit the computer manufacturer’s website.
2). Make sure the device is enabled in the computer BIOS. You need the system documentation, if you don’t know how to do it.
3). Disable any advanced feature of the device.
4). Install the most up to date service pack and any other updates.

SOURCE: Full System Recovery
As long as you haven't formatted your hard drive or replaced it, it is built into the system. To access it, make sure your computer is turned off. Then:
1. While holding the F8 key, turn the computer on again.
2. The Advanced Boot Options menu will be displayed. Use the arrow keys to select Repair Your Computer and press ENTER.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions from this point onward.
Thanks and please take a moment to give this solution a thumbs up rating with a solution that solved your problem.
