First check all cables and connections.

The TV is using its power management system. Press the Source button on the panel or remote control. Turn the TV off and on.

Check and see if the channel is digital or analog. You may have to go to the original format analog. Then again, because of the change in digital signaling the TV may have got upgraded, and need reset to it.

And then do as picture quality adjustment. Hope this helps!

If adjustment helped look for more physical causes.

Once these have been eliminated, you are left with the
    following possibilities:

    1. Defective part around the chroma chip/circuit. Misadjusted color
      oscillator.

    2. Bad connections or short circuit in area of chroma chip/circuit.

    3. Defective chroma chip (don't suspect this first just because it
      is probably very expensive).

    4. Bad degauss circuit resulting in lack of degauss or abrupt termination
of degauss current rather than smooth tail off. The CRT is not being
properly demagnetized and color purity is totally messed up.

    5. Bad CRT - the shadow mask has been damaged and it is impossible to
properly adjust purity across the screen.
Hopefully the problem is found, if not a service adjustment should be done.

More often than not the whole panel isn't bad because there be a few strips and very dark.

If all interfering item exclude such as, cable box and bad connections. The big trouble may be coming from the y-sys boards, and or the logic panel. Even though, it should be looked into the varies sync controls too before any replacements.

Have a Tech come and adjust the v_scan, and v_set settings down a few Mhz.
Which more likely he'll do the upgraded service adjustment in which you'll get a nice little inductor to set right between where this problem all began.

I was aware of the hot buffers with this tv and your right, I should have pointed to it, My question is, when troubleshooting , I guess at the first step about the power management should have brought awareness to the light not being on. I do think you would have given credit, if I would have asked about the lights directly.
How did I do on the question of bad? Reason, possible one wavelength may terminate better because of physical size and may have been told. To much green represents a run away condition. Black & white sparkling is dumesday. Where do you stand?

Horizontal lines plasma screen

The details you provided here is not enough to provide a solution to this problem. Check http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ This link. Pull up older posts there. Defective screen shots to plasma TVs are given. Compare them with your TV, and try to understand the fault. Most plasma screens will have similar circuit configuration, irrespective of brands and models. The only difference will be the number of circuit boards it contains according to its screen size.

I have a 5 yr old Samsung HP-R5012 Plasma Display Television. A display model. Last night, horizontal lines appeared, then, the top half of the screen went black, with color pink and blue surrounding the...

Hello,

All plasma an lcd TV have boards that control vertical and horizontal output to their respective areas. They are connected to the screen by ribbon cables. If one of these boards fails all together, has a failed chip, a bad connection, or a bad ground somewhere it will result in a black line in the area of that board. A bad ribbon cable connection on the bottom will result in a vertical black bar though the screen. Many times resetting the connection will fix it, if the ribbon cable has been nicked there could be a severed connection. They an sometimes be fixed, but it is a pain. An yes I have done it, but the bar is gone. The same will happen if the chip that outputs to that area opens. The connectors are the first place to look paying close attention to the cable, they are extremely delicate so great care must be taken if you decide to tinker with em, the usually have lift locks that release them, but it is very easy to wreck em.

Good luck.

They didn't fix the issue this last time. The most common failure in these models is the upper and lower Y buffer boards. There are updated versions and both must be replaced as a pair. The part numbers are as follows: BN96-03361A for upper Y board and BN96-03362A for the lower Y board. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks...

How long is a piece of string?

There are 2 boards called sustain boards inside the set. Either one of them or both could be the culprit. Unless you have electronic skill, the right tools and know how to retune the set, I would siuggest this is not a DIY job. Some willsay it is just a matter of unplugging the boards and replacing them, howver that is a short lived fix in a majority of the cases i read on here.

Yes it does work for a while, then other problems arise.. conergence drops out, power fails and a myriad of other things happen that would normally be measured and checked by a good repair technician. It ends up costing 2-3 times more than if it was done professionally. The decision is yours, but i can only advise you NOT to.

Thanks for using FIXYA

Purple and white distorted fuzzy lines running up and down and side to side on tv

I just had my lower Y-buffer board swapped out to fix a problem similar to yours. After an hour and a half of on-time, the lower half of the screen would flicker on and off with the same appearance you mentioned. Changing out this particular board fixed it for me. However, since it has gone from top to bottom on your set, it may be more of a main board problem for you (that controls both upper and lower halves). Beyond this, I don't know any more. I am considering getting a service manual to gain more knowledge about the various PCBs in the unit so I can fix any future problems myself.
