Getting high resolution on your new monitor are the best knowledge to identify if it is high resolution. Resolving your problem is see to it that your using such VGA Resolution of your built-in VGA or AGP VGA Card install with the software properly.
And use DirectX 9.0 or 10 version to help your graphic resolution works.
Good luck!

Dell optiplex

Yes it can, if otherwise all you will need to do is to reduce / high the screen resolution for better image and display.
by right clicking on your Desktop , scroll down to properties (if window xp), screen resolution (if window vista or window 7) and click on slider to increase or reduce the resolution . then you are done.

N:B: if the montior of the higher resolution would not display, make use of a normal one that will work to set it first and later return your new 24inch monitor. IT WILL DISPLAY BETTER.

Have you tried lowering the resolution of your computer? Better yet you can try booting up the pc in safe mode. If that work, then probably the problem is that the monitor does not support high resolution.
You can also check if your video cables are properly inserted to the correct slots. Also check if your video cables are damaged. Thank you.

Odds are that you have your power saving setting a bit high. (or the monitor is poopy)
Your compuer will go into stand-by mode on it's own.
Go to Control Panel and Power Options and set them accordingly.

If this does not work then congrats!!
You purchased a DELL!

Hope this helps.
