Question about D-Link RangeBooster G WBR-2310 Wireless Router (WBR2310)

2 Answers

I have a Sony Vaio laptop and my internet (Time Warner) works when connected directly into the laptop, but will not when the cable is connected to the D-Link to the WBR-2310 router. I think it's firewalled, but I don't know how to fix it. What's wrong?

Has the wireless router been configured for wireless access and these settings used to configure the wireless card in the computer?
The wireless router needs to be connected with a LAN cable before the wireless settings can be configured.
To configure the DLink - open a browser and enter the URL configuration IP address this is http://192.168.0.1
The login name is admin and the PW is left blank (unless you have changed it)
After you login if you have not done so, change the default password.
Then configure the wireless settings :-
Setup a new SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
Setup encryption use WAP2 (the latest and strongest)
For further security eable MAC address filtering, enter the MAC address of the wireless card in your computer into the filter table.
Configure the wireless card in the computer with the router's wireless settings.

Reboot your modem(power it off for about 10-15 secs), reset your router. make sure your laptop is disconnected from the modem when doing this. Modem needs to catch router's ip address. Start your laptop and search wireless networks. look for your d-link router and connect. Now this is assuming you didn't firewall your router, which in tun you will need to enter your key to connect.

Did you tried cable connection to your router to see if this works?
which windows its runing on?

If wireless connection drops its not all the time your laptop issue... its router transmitted channel conflict with laptop wireless card channel....
You might fix this by changing the router wireless setting by changing the transmission channel on it.and then re connect the laptop or it may auto reconnect with it and hopefully signal will not drop.

one is network card for cable connection to internet
one is wireless card for wireless connection to your router(with internet connection)

I bought a new sony vaio laptop today as did my mum, but neither laptop will connect to the internet via our orange livebox. Our main home computer still connects perfctly well though. I've checked...

Connect using an Ethernet cable first of all. Once all set up, THEN go wireless using security code password for wireless.

Do the same for each new computer. Ethernet direct connection first, then wireless once you KNOW it's working.

No internet connection

if you are worried about the icons that are sown in the tray system ( lower right in the task bar ) those are showing the other connections that are not working at the time ...for example the LAN cable conection ...and the blue tooth ..those will appear not connected if you have no cable on the Lan card or blue tooth device connection ...even if you are connected via wireless those will appear unless you choose to unchecked the show in tray ...
if you are asking about the connection you have made wireless and it doesnt work ...you probably have a driver problem ..just reinstall the driver for the wireless card if you know that the connection should work ...if you have acces on the net wireless those icons that are x-ed on the right on the task bar are for the other connection methods ..so do not worry ..

Not recognized by cable modem

Turn everything off for 2 minutes, cable modem, router and pc.

Turn on modem and wait 2 minutes for the modem to sync to TW.
Turn on router after 2 mins and wait until the router syncs with the modem.
Turn on PC
It sounds like your router lost its connection to the cable modem, which happens from time to time. TW will not help with your router. I worked for a cable co and the router and modem losing sync was the at least 70% of the calls. FYI cable doesn't use DSL,just the phone co.

I have Time Warner Cable for internet and Vontage cable for my phone thru my internet. I'm trying to connect a Linksys router for my wireless laptop. I also have a Netgear switch connected to Time Warner...

If you purchased a Linksys wireless roter then you shoul not need the switch anymore-
Try going directly from your time warner modem into the Interner/WAN port on the router and then plug your desktop computer and the vontage phone system into 2 of the ports on the router. After everything is hooked up you will probably need to power cycle for it all to work correctly.
Please power cycle in this order:

Reboot modem - then Router- then Vontage phone system.

Hope this helps

Cannot connect new laptop to internet

Do you have a router set up? If not two things you can do:

1) Buy and setup wireless router wired with desktop and wireless with laptop.

OR

2) Remove network cable from back of Desktop and plug into laptop each time you want to use Internet. Cheaper option but more hassle to switch back and forth.
