I have a Sirius S50 and the play button on the unit itself does not activate, so it can't be used as a portable. The unit is practically new but out of warrenty and Sirius wont help. I think the unit needs to be open and I dont know where to start. Any help out there

I had the exact same problem happen to me yesterday with my S50. My guess is that the software got corrupted somehow. I fixed mine last night be reinstalling S50 software via USB cable to my PC. Note: You need My Sirius Studio application loaded on your PC. Be sure to press Exit button on My Sirius Software Ap after you reinstall S/W. Patiently wait for S50 to 100% complete before disconnecting. Then, manually turn on S50 (while holding in your hand); do NOT put in car/home dock yet. S50 will then update S/W. When this completes, now you can put in dock. I don't exactly recall, but I think the S50 indicated the dock was being updated, then it defaulted to channel 184 indicating to call Sirius to subscribe. Since I already have a subscription in place on my S50, I just pressed channel 2 (The Blend) from my remote, and then my S50 began updating all channels. Success! I'm so happy my S50 is now working again! Good luck to others experiencing same problem; hope this helps! I can only imagine the frustration trying to get help from Sirius folks for this type of problem...
Hi sasutton, SIRIUS-Ready radios are usually identified by the SIRIUS dog symbol appearing somewhere on the radio itself. A SIRIUS-Ready radio is a radio that may require the purchase of a SIRIUS tuner in order to be activated. Every 90 minutes if you do not interact with the player, player display a notice and play a small audible alert to ask if you're still listening to the player. If you're not, the player will shut down after five minutes of the message being up there. If you are there, all you have to do is click the button and you can continue listening. Sirius player do this so that we're not streaming to computers that have no listeners, to maintain optimum performance for active listeners. You are probably not sitting at your computer when this message pops open which is why you get interrupted. Good luck! And Thanks.
I am most certain that you have to return the radio most likely you do have a faulty radio and you have only one or two choices here. Return or take it to a tech...I would use the warrenty and send it back...sounds very faulty...this is common with these radios.
Dick, Did u go to the menu to get the Sirius ID# or ESN# or did u get it from the box or back of the unit itself?? I used to work in activations department for sirius and the most common reason that a plug and play unit would not activate is a mismatch in ID #'s. I have seen units with one ID number, but the box or the back of the radio actually being labeled with a different number. By the way, only one signal can be sent to the radio every 20 minutes or so and most reps you talk to don't even know this. So after sending the first signal, all they are doing is clicking a button on the screen and getting a message back that says "Duplicate Provision" meaning that the signal cannot be sent because it is already sent. If you were hearing audio on channel 184 when the signal was sent and you made no adjustments during this time, and the SID or ESN number is the correct one for your unit, and the radio doesn't activate, I would get a replacement. But this never happens in my experience unless there are other signs of defect.
When the S50 is place overnight in the Home Base Unit or connected to the AC Adapter it will not charge battery completely.
The I have purchased two new batteries and both have not been properly charge by the units mentioned.
The charge provided to the Battery is of short duration 10 or 15 minutes maximum.
I have telephoned Sirius Company and their response was that they don’t have repair service for this unit any longer.
Try putting the unit in standby via the "SRC" button FIRST..., then press the menu button and cycle through to the "AUX 1" option and activate this....then press menu button again. When the unit is next switched on, you should have an "AUX" option accessible via the "SRC" button which will cycle through all of the availale modes ....standby-tuner-cd-aux etc etc.
