Please see this link for more information. Perhaps the internal speaker is defective. I've repaired this problem many times.

To much static

Static can be a sign of a bad or poorly charged battery. Try trading batteries with a known good unit and see if the problem is solved. If so, replace the battery. Other issues which might cause static are a bad speaker or other internal issues.

My alpine cda-9886 restarts when i turn it up to about 22. i have no idea how loud it goes. i bought this refurbished from overstock.com about 3 years ago. its becoming annoying now.

the unit may see a short in one of the speakers that is causing the transistor to protect itself by shutting down. Try changing the balance and fade settings to listen to one speaker at a time. If any speaker isn't working, that would be the one causing the problem. If you disconnect the speaker and the problem resolves, the speaker is bad. If the problem doesn't resolve, the problem is in the wiring or an internal short in the head unit. In fact, you may want to start at the head unit and disconnect the bad channel from the head unit. That way you can discover right away if the short is internal. You can even disconnect all the speakers at the head unit and turn up the volume. If it cuts out, it has to be an internal short. If you're good with electronics, you may be able to find the short inside. OK?

Sony cdx m610 resets itself at half volume

You have a shorted speaker or speaker wire. If a wire is touching metal lightly it may not have full continuity (short) and will work until more voltage (volume) is sent to the speaker and causes the short. Disconnect all speakers at the radio then turn the unit back on. Turn up the volume and see if it cuts out. If it stays on, re-connect speakers one at a time and test. Once you find the problem speaker, disconnect the wire at the speaker then test again. This will eliminate the speaker itself as the problem. Test again. If it still shorts, trace the wire from dash to speaker and look for a cut in the sheathing exposing the wire. Repair or replace the wire and you should be good to go. If the unit cuts out with all speakers disconnected, the problem is internal and will need to be serviced. Before you repair/ or replace the unit either check all the wiring and the speakers or have someone do it for you so it does not give you a repeat performance. Hope this helps.

Model htr-520 When i turn on the receiver it lights up for about 2 seconds and goes into standby mode

Disconnect all speakers at the receiver and turn the unit on. If it still cuts out, It has internal issues and needs serviced. (Transistor(s) capacitor(s) etc. If it stays on, reconnect speakers one at a time and test power, you will either fix the problem (a crossed braid touching the other pole) or you will find a speaker that has a shorted wire or bad voice coil. Should only take twenty or thirty minutes to conclusion. Hope this helps. If you need to troubleshoot further, post a comment and I will help some more. Best of luck.

Receiver won't turn on

Disconnect all the speaker wires, then turn the unit on. If it does not power on and the standby light is "out" pop the top and check the internal fuse by the power cord. Beyond that, without the proper testing equipment, it's all a guess. If the unit turns back on with all the wires disconnected, then reconnect your speaker wires one by one and test each time. If it does not cut out, you found the problem. Wire touching. If it cuts out, disconnect wire at the speaker and re test, if it still cuts out, replace the wire and try again. Then re connect the same speaker to the new wire and test. If your lucky, all will be well. If not, it will need to be serviced or replaced, based on cost. Hope this helps

We have had a Technics stereo for 16 years and have had NO problems until the last couple weeks. If the volume gets turned up, the signal will come on that tells us that there is an OVERLOAD. We have tried...

Disconnect the speaker wires at the receiver, turn up the volume, if it goes into protection, it's an internal problem and needs service. If it does not go into protection, re connect one speaker at a time and test. If it shuts down check the speaker itself, if they are as old as the receiver, chances are good that the surrounds on the speakers themselves have disintegrated. Older speakers used foam surrounds, newer ones use rubber or plastic composite material that will not disintegrate. What will happen is dust and moisture will get into the voice coil and cause a short, even though the speaker still plays. Hope this helps. If you need more help or just advice, post a comment, and I'll help if I can

No audio output

Well besides the obvious of voice off/on the speaker could be blown. I have one of these units but have not cracked it open. My speaker has blown twice on my passport 9500i and I just replaced it myself. It's out of warrantee and Escort wouldn't send me a speaker, so I got one from radio shack and that worked for a while, then blew. I used a laptop internal speaker now and that works great ! BTW if the speaker on this unit is soldered to the board good luck, like I said I haven't cracked my ew3100 open yet.

Voice directions not working.

First, ensure that you are using the unmuted internal speakers by pressing the power button twice while the unit is on.

Do you hear beeps (button tones) through the speakers?

These are a couple things to try:

1. Change the voice from English TTS (JILL) to English TTS (JAKE) - This will demonstrate whether the voice database has been corrupted.

2. Tap the power button twice while the unit is on to switch back to fm transmitter and attempt to use your radio to tune the sound. If you succeed here, you may indeed have a problem with your internal speaker. A return of the product may be necessary.
