It sounds like the tubes may be dented or bent. It won't take much of a bend to make it hard to work. Send it to: http://www.manfrottotripodparts.com/repairs.html

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  • Use the following sequence in order to tighten the cylinder head bolts: Tighten
    1. Tighten bolt 1 to 63 N·m (46 lb ft).
    2. Tighten bolt 2 to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).
    3. Tighten bolt 3 to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).
    4. Tighten bolt 4 to 63 N·m (46 lb ft).
    5. Tighten bolt 5 to 63 N·m (46 lb ft).
    6. Tighten bolt 6 to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).
    7. Tighten bolt 7 to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).
    8. Tighten bolt 8 to 63 N·m (46 lb ft).
    9. Tighten bolt 9 to 63 N·m (46 lb ft).
    10. Tighten bolt 10 (stud bolt) to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).
    11. Then tighten all bolts an additional 90 degrees

Reassembling telescopic sections for a 676B monopod

Each leg lock has a leg locking lever and a screw that hold the clamp assembly tight to the leg. Unlock the leg lock lever, loosen the screw above it that holds the clamp tight to the leg. The legs should fit into each other sice each leg is slightly larger or smaller then then next one. Slide the clamps in the approprite places and tighten the screw enough to hold the clamp assembly tight, but do not over tighten it. Over tightening will damage the 679 tubes.
