Hi Willi!

Have you checked if there is a power indicator on the AC adapter? If it exists, does it lit when you plug to a power outlet? Also, do you have a spare power plug that you can put in replacement with the old plug?

It is because your power adapter voltage has issue or some earthing grounding problem.

Try in another outlet of your home .
There should be problem with your adapter it not gives proper voltage or grounding issue.
But try in another power supply sometimes main power supply has issue.

Let me know if you need more assistance.
Thanks.

You may also want to try the other AC adapter and check if the system turns on fine. If yes the the AC adapter has to be replaced else you need to update the BIOS from the manufacturer's website. Kindly perform the steps and comment.

The motherboard does not have any type of fuse on it. I would also like to know if the adapter charges the battery when hooked to the system after turning it on. If yes then the above solution will work.

After that you may need to turn on system and press F2 to enter BIOS and you will have an option to restore BIOS. Since it is a comparitively old system probably F9 will restore the BIOS to defaults. Then the system will boot normally.

Kindly comment.

Hi, you need to strip it down to compnent level and follow the tracks on the sys board which will go through a fuse (possibly) then a diode bridge rectifier and then multitude of capaictors, coils, for smoothing the DC signal (again possibly).

The likelyhood is that you have a damaged system board or a damaged power supply.

In the early days laptops like the Toshiba satellite pro's used to have rectification (For Power conversion from AC-DC) done inside the laptop. But the problem with this is it uses lots of space inside the machine and if it goes wrong it means a whole new system board.

Thats why all rectification on just about all laptop's is done via an external PSU. It then feeds a smoothed cleaned DC power signal into the laptop motherboard.

There may be a zener diode protecting the board, but you need to give it to an engineer.

I used to be a Customer Engineer for Dell and fixed Toshiba/Compaq/HP laptops for corporate customers....

You cannot simply unscrew a compartment and replace the fuse.

If you are looking for a fuse on the main board probably would look like this. tried best toge the motherboard similar to the laptop we are talking about.

Hi,

As your notebook turns out with the battery in and works fine but it won't turn on with the AC Adopter, it clearly confirms the fault with AC Adopter.

If you have a multimeter, you can check the Voltage across that. Unless, replace it if under warranty or purchase it.

You can purchase the same from :-

http://www.amazon.com/DELL-Inspiron-5150-AC-Adapter/dp/B000A0QJB4

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

As per the information, you gave me , i came to conclusion that AC Adapter is working. You can ON the notebook using the battery but the Battery is not charging.

I recommend going into your Power Options (in Start - Control
Panel) and going in Power Options to the Power Meter tab. With one or
any of the problem batteries or replacement battery plugged into the
laptop, do you see any indication of battery presence or status? (does
it say Not Present, or Charging X %, or Fully Charged 100 %, or what?)

Are you sure this is a fault with AC Fuse?

OK!! Change battery and then try to charge the notebook. If it charges, then the issue is with the Battery which most likely requires replacement/repair and if again it would not charge, then it's a circuit problem in the motherboard.

Do you have instruments to repair that?

It require you to have knowledge of resistors, capacitors and solder.

If yes, let me know. I would guide you unless seek a local tech.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

My lapto inspiron 1521 wont turn on and the hard disk LDE does not flashes.

Hi,

Im very sorry to hear that, please follow these simple steps for you to be able to isolate the exact problem.

1. Removed the battery.
2. Connect the laptop directly to the power outlet without using the battery just for the meantime.
3. Turn on the laptop. If the laptop is able to power on, that means that the AC adapter is working fine as well as the DC port. If the laptop is not able to turn on, it maybe the AC adapter itself or the DC port.
4. Try to use another AC adapter if possible, make sure that that AC adapter is working fine. If the laptop is still not turning on, the problem is with the DC port itself. In that case, you will need to replaced the Motherboard itself.

Dell inspiron 5150 do not come on when the power button pressed

If you remove the battery and disconnect power cord, then hold power button for 20 seconds, then reconnect power cord but do not re-insert battery, and the unit powers on okay, the problem may be your battery. If there is still an intermittent problem, the power connector inside the unit may be loose and need re-soldering, or you could have a bad power supply.

Dell inspiron 1501 work fine turn off last night now wont turn on

You mentioned trying a different battery, try a different AC adapter.

When plugging in the ac adapter to the wall, see if the POWER LED comes on on the adapter, then when you connect it to the computer, see if the LED stays on.

If the issue occurs with both AC adapters (No battery installed) then the motherboard has failed. If one ac adapter works but the other doesn't then the adapter is bad

Mouse problem when running on ac power

Might be a driver glitch. Try uninstalling the drivers for the touch pad, some times refered to as synaptic pointing device, from the devic manager, then plug the power supply in and reboot. The machine will find the touch pad, and reinstall the drivers. Try this and let me know.

Can't charge battery or run off AC

You may have a problem in the DC charge circuitry. These parts are located on the moatherboard directly and can't be bought separately and repaired. You must send your Dell to a specialised service to have it fixed by them. Sorry, I can't see no other way for this problem to be solved.
