Mouse cursor not moving on a Dell laptop

You will have to check the Mouse Settings.

Click Start and then control panel.
Look for Mouse and then Pointer Options.
Check for default settings.

You may also want to look for Drivers but before that i would suggest you try this mouse on a different system or a different mouse on your notebook.

My cursor will not move on my computer? Can you suggest an answer?

Is the computer frozen itself? If is solely the curser, you may need a new mouse. Try using a different mouse to see if you get the same occurence. If it is a wireless mouse , try to change the batteries.

The "mouse" on my Hp Pavillion laptop stopped working last night---it will not move the cursor. Can I fix this and if so, please explain in basic layman's terms so I can understand the instructions?

Is this a wireless mouse, or a wired one? If it is wired, there could be 1) so much dirt between the ball and the contacts inside the mouse housing that it won't move (usually there is a way to remove the ball and use tweezers to try and remove all the accumulated stuff); 2) the connection (plug) could have worked loose. Pull the plug out, reinsert it, and reboot. 3) the cord could have a bend or been steppedon and have a poor or no connection. A new mouse is in order. If it is a wireless mouse, batteries are the probable culprit. We put new rechargeable batteries in less than a week ago in ours, and even though our mouse goes in a charger when we are not using it, it would not work until I put new rechargeable batteries in. Remember - even new things can be bad.

Oh man!...
First, the mouse:
[Control Panel]
[Mouse]
[Pointer Options] tab
uncheck "Automatically move pointer to the default button..."

TouchPad:
Right-click [My Computer]
[Manage]
[Device Manager]
open the +Mice and other pointing devices
Right-click on your touchpad entry (if you can't tell which one, pick one - no harm will come)
You can update driver...
or you can uninstall it and WINDOWS WILL RE_INSTALL IT>

Let us know the outcome ... and how many seconds it took to fix...

Try replacing the batteries or if it has rechargeable batteries, try removing and replacing them. Also clean the red lens on the bottom of the mouse with a cotton swab. Good luck!

Dell optical wireless mouse locking

If your mouse is "locking" the two most likely causes are either due to a battery issue or a connection issue. The first is unlikely since you're saying it started just after you replaced the battery, but you might want to try again if you have other new batteries around that you can use. Also you could try Re-Pairing (if you have the bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse combo that dell offers) the keyboard and mouse after reboot. step by step Instructions for re-pairing or fixing a corrupted are should be available on the Dell support website and vary depending on the exact model you have.
