It sounds like the ice guide ( pt # 2180224 ) is missing from the arm you press to get ice . This clear piece just snaps on to the arm . This piece , narrows down , to about 2 " , so that all ice goes into container .

The ice dispenser keeps going after I remove a glass.

does the ice auger still move(motor) or does the ice just fall out for a few moments after you release the drinking glass trigger ?

reason I ask is: there is a mechanical clock spring motor inside that controls a door to shut off the freezer from the outside(kitchen) , and ive seen rust/time ruin many of them (sticks open) there not too expensive and not too hard to change , usually just two Phillips head screws

this is not well for a few reasons , 1 it allows ice to continue to fall out of freezer and 2 it never shuts the freezer off from the kitchen so appliance runs more to freeze the freezer , also it makes for some drips on floor as well from melting ice

Our new 48" Viking side by side does not feed ice cubes adequately. If you need several glasses of cubes it stops feeding and when one opens the freezer door they are piled up and fall all over the floor....

I experienced the same problem several times with our VCSB483DSS also.

What I found was that the ice come down the chute side way and got stuck at the flap in the door. As you continue to press for ice, the machine pushes more ice & they all back up in side the chute and in the door, ready to dump on unsuspecting person who open the freezer door.

I think the the problems are:
1 - over application of foam insulation in the chute pathway in the door.
2 - possible bad timing on the flap opening causing the falling ice to get stuck.

My solution for the past 6 years:
1 - clean out the over application of foam insulation - this reduce the incident frequency from once a month to once or twice a year.
2 - inform my family member that if while you pressed for ice, and the ice is not dropping, but you hear the motor still cranking away, stop pressing for ice immediately. Stick you finger up the dispenser to make sure the flap is open, and push the ice to un-stuck them. And finally, be prepare to get 2 cups full of ice.

Viking may make professional quality fridge (13 years experience in restaurant business), but ice & water dispenser is not their strong point.

Freezer frosts up to the point of not being able to open the door without ice falling on the floor. Can this be fixed?

Yes it can be fixed, This can be as simple as replacing the door seals if bad to replacing the defrost board. If the seals are good and the doors close and seal as they should then the defrost is not working properly.

Ice is forming around the auger under the ice bin. constantly have water dripping from ice cube shoot

the door that the ice comes down to fill glass is not closing; the ice chute door just above the lever to fiil glass with ice it is either jamed with ice or is broken and needs a new repair kit.you can inspect by opening door and look at approx. 3 inch door that ice falls threw to see if closed.warm air causes ice to form.

Ice Maker Trap door may be broken

I am having the same problem. My husband took off the front panel and we discovered there is a small piece of plastic holding the ice dispenser door in place that is broken so the door doesn't seal.

I called Sears to see if the part is replaceable -- it's not. I have to buy an entire freezer door for $464 because a .10 cent piece of plastic is broken.

This seems to be a common problem. My refrigerator is only 3 years old. Perhaps we need to make a complaint to Sears/Kenmore together.
