cannot playback dvd-r on lg rh397d after recording from hdd. message is 'cannot playback due to navigation error' please help

When you burn a DVD, it is ONLY playable in the RH397D.
Buggy menus - and no way to flash the firmware.
Terribly designed remote.
HDD never seems to spin down, no matter how long it sits.
Doesn't play XVid.
I was a bit disappointed with this product. It does do, what is listed on the box, and one can't be too disappointed with that.
