Well I have my other laptop connected to the other KVM swtich cable and it properly displays the correct resolution 1920 x 1080. So there has to be another reason why.

When I connect my laptop directly to my HP w2338h monitor the resolution adjust itself to the monitor resolution of 1920 x 1080, but when I connect to my iogear kvm switch (Model#:GCS632U) the resolution only adjusts to 1024 x 768. I checked the specifications for my KVM switch and it shows that it can support video resolution up to 2048 x 1536. Also, if this helps I know that this should work since I do have another laptop connected to the other cable of the KVM Switch and it is working properly (monitor displays resolution 1920 X 1080). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you able to adjust the resolution to the correct one from the laptops settings?

    Hi

Probably all you need to do is to adjust the resolution of the external monitor from the laptops settings.
On your laptop desktop, right click on your background and select Properties. In properties select the last tab "settings" click on the Monitor #2 (it will only show numbers alone like 1 or 2 CLICK ON 2) Now adjust the resolution from the lever below. set it to the optimal 1920x1080 then click Apply and OK

If you have vista its little different, right click on desktop, select customise? and screen resolution. do the same things as above.

if you don't have 2 monitor screens in the settings, then press the FN button together with one of the F1 - f12 keys, one of them will switch between different screen settings --- Only laptop screen, Only external, both. it needs to be set on both, after swapping the settings go back into the screen resolutions and try adjusting them again.

you should be able to get the 1920x1080 out from the laptop into the external display, its just a settings problem.

This only happens if the KVM switch doesn't support transmitting 1080p or 1080i signal.

The resolution 1024 x 768 indicates that the KVM switch supports transmitting only 720p signal.

I HAVE COLORED LINES ON THE RIGHTSIDE OF MY MONITOR THAT WON'T GO AWAY AND ARE BECOMING WIDER AND MORE OF THEM, ITS ONLY A YEAR OLD. IT'S A HP w2338h MONITOR.

mcdevito75 here, Double check all connections at your monitor and computer. On the monitor press the AUTO button, this will re-set the factory settings. If this fails, I would bring the monitor to a Staples, Radio shack, Best Buy for testing, Monitor could be going bad even at a year old, also check any warrantees on the monitor.

I have a HP w2338h monitor that goes blank

It is most likely a bad power supply... I have had aboit 4 diff monitors do this to me... most common is under rated capacitors in the internal power supply... some times there could be a black light going out witch causes higher current draw on the power supply ( witch can take out the caps, fusses, transformers ( caps and transformers when they get week and bad can cause the buzzing sound ( on some times with a radio near buy then the monitor is acting up with blanking out and buzzine the radio will pop and buzz as well witch is a sign that there is arching going on IE. caps and transformer are most common for that )))

hope this info helps

And what about volume adjustment in the monitor itself? Is it also adjusted to a higher level?

Recommended resolution

Most likely your video card will not support that kind of resolution through that monitor. I did not see where you mentioned the card or not, but it takes a good graphics card to push that kind of resolution.
