The drive belt on my old john deer riding mower broke how would i fix

sue look under the mower and see if the drive belt has come off the pulley or broke. it will be from the engine to the back of the mower.

Rex, check the drive belt,old stretched, loose, broke, fell out of position Tension er weak or seized if equipped, worn out pulleys.

My belt broke in half and I took the old broken one into the repair shop and they matched me up with a new one and it works. Never throw an old one away if you are not sure the size.

It sounds to me like the traction drive belt slipped off of a pulley or broke. The easiest way to get to the traction belt is to remove the mower deck. There is no easy way to replace the belt, however. It runs from the transaxle at the rear to the engine at the front, around idlers. If the fan is damaged replace it you can bend the gard back ing the correct shape.
