Question about Dell Inspiron E1405 Notebook

1 Answer

The DVD player plays, but the sound is staticky. Speaker works fine when on internet, and Itunes. We only have the problem when watching DVD's. The drive sounds funny, but plays the video just fine.

1. Usually the DVD player can play for years then you will get one that will play 6 months.
2. some times this is due to dust or dirt in the mechanism.
3. A can of compressed air sprayed through the DVD drive will sometime clear this issue.
4. the static sounds also can come from a dirty DVD disk.
5.Wash the DVD disk with a mild hand soap with warm water not hot then dry with a cotton cloth or bath towel.
6. check the sound cable to the mother board it may be loose also , this can cause static sound.
7. This may take a long time but if you have done a "de-fragmentation" of the hard drive this could be an issue also.

Ok, I bought some Gigaware speakers (8watt GigaWare 2.0 2/bass subwoofer) and they work just fine, playing internet content and MP3s- until I try to play a DVD. Then, one channel of the audio disappears-...

A couple of things I would check first..

Obviously the settings on the movie audio settings themselves.. the default may be dts or some such thing.

Next.. open the control panel. clik on Sound.. make sure you check all the settings.. clik on the speaker icon and clik configure..

Also check the settings via your sound card software interface.. it sounds like something is set to something other than simple Stereo.. like 5.1 or 7.1 etc.

I doubt it's the dvd player itself.. or the dvd.. more than likely it is a simple conflict in one of the above settings

Good luck

I can't get my coby DVD 937 to play sound while watching tv. It works fine while playing a DVD or CD????

there should be an input line of just audio cable hookups (one red and one white) that you have to run and an output cable from your tv audio output of just red and white. make sure the tv says output or line out and the surround sound system says input or line in

No sound out of right main when watching DVR/TV or VHS

When watching TV or VHS the sound should be stereo and therefor come out of the the 2 front speakers. I suspect you now have sound out of the left front and the center speaker which indicates you connected the center speaker to the right front speakerterminal and the right front to the center terminal.

Just check if all speakers are connected to the correspondent speakerterminal.

If this is correct and the problem persists, try to connect another speaker to the right front terminal to see of the terminal or speaker is not working properly. If another speaker does work on the same connection, your right speaker might be damaged which might not be heard when listening to 5.1 because of the surround sound.

Altec Lansing VS 4121

It is unlikely that this is a problem with your speakers more likely that it is a problem with the DVD player itself. I would recomend trying another DVD player.
