What is the correct gap between the magneto core and magnet?

The gap is .010. You can also use a card to gap the coil and after you tighten the coil and remove the card turn the flywheel by hand one revolution to make sure the magnet does not rub on the flywheel.

I have a Sears 18 HP BS 31P777 Just got a long block moved every thing over and it will not turn over I get a spark on the plug and a backfire every once in a will but thats it Things I will check...

a simple way to set the gap is to use a couple of regular business cards (2) stacked on each other, loosen the magneto and let it fall onto the flywheel, with the cards in between, and then tighten the magneto hold down bolts, and spin the flywheel to remove the cards, with the gap you have the motor is fighting to fire and is doing so too slow, which is causing the backfire,

What is the magneto gap for a 6HP Briggs & Stratton 12H802 series engine?

Briggs lists it as .006 - .010 on this 6 HP L-head engine. The .010 width can easily be attained by using a standard sized business card as a feeler gauge (and it doesn't stick to the magnets in the flywheel). I double up the card, loosen the coil and let the magnets in the flywheel draw the pickup legs in until they press on the card, tighten up the retaining screws (threadlocker is optional) and your air gap is set.

Have 303447 briggs 16 hp only fires one cylinder

Have you also changed the spark plug too. The ignition circuit is pretty simple, from the battery, the Coil is energized, the "points" or equivalent, through the "Distributor" or equivalent, and onto the Spark Plug. So it is a simple matter to work along the path, proving the "Integrity" at each, point by testing. IF it still doesn't fire after ensuring all Leads are OK, the Spark Plugs are proven OK, the Cables, the Points, & Distributor, . IT is either that or the Ignition Timing is OFF. Please check all those points.

Need timming specks & torgue speck for rod bolts

There are no timing "specs", if the flywheel key is good and the magneto air gap is properly set, the timing will be right.
Torque for the rod bolts is 45 INCH pounds - NOTE INCH pounds not foot pounds

No spark

If your engine is 11 years old it will have points @condensor under flywheel there are two wires coming from the condensor one goes to the coil and the other goes to a ground switch thats most of the time on the throotle linkage,if that wire is grounded against metal there will be not spark . the gap between coil and flywheel is 10 thousands (you can use an index card to set it .

Cant get a spark on my briggs and stratton 4hp engine, trying to

gap from coil to flywheel is .010. if you've replaced coil, points and condenser with no spark i would try replacing the coil and points with an magnetron kit or a coil that allows for the elimination of points.
