Your card might have a tiny "switch" on it that you may have slid into the locked position when you were installing it. I have media for my Fuji camera that has this feature. Take the card/chip out, and see if you can find any movable bits. (I hope you figured out a solution before the December holidays.)

Card locked shows of view finder, cannot take a picture it shows a't picture but won't take a picture

Look at the memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Remove the memory card from the camera. Note that there is a small slide switch on one of the long edges of the card. Slide the switch to unlock or lock the card.

there is a little switch on the left side of SD cards; if it's down, your card is locked and you cannot copy anything on it or delete anyfile, also you cannot take any picture by it. so you have to change the switch postion. just this! I hope this helps...

Cant take photos as it says the card is write protected

Take your memory card out of the camera and switch the position of the little "lock" tab. That should fix it and you can start saving images.
