Head and valves all carboned up on 24 hp motor

Excessive carbon in combustion chamber is an indication of bad rings (oil). Try adding a small can of RESTORE to the oil. It is available at Wal-mart and will help with oil control

Engine will not turnover

Is it a Briggs or Kohler motor, and since it is a 24 hp I take it it has overhead valves.

3 thousand on the valves semms awful tight unless it has hydrolic lifters.

I always set both intake and exhaust at 5 to7 thousand. will it turn over by hand with no plugs in ?

does it lock up when using starter ? (look at starter shaft bent)

I know this sounds stupid but are both pistons moving freely or is connecting rod blown.

You could have a bent valve stem.

24 hp brig motor does not seem to be getting fuel

the additive in gas eth. causes fuel lines to break down and not deliver gas to the carb. replace fuel line.

check fuel pump, remove fuel line to carb. turn motor over, if fuel does not spurt out fuel line replace fuel pump.

float in carb may be stuck, remove bowl from carb. and check needle valve, if gummed up clean.

24 hp briggs motor Hard to start. It acts just like starter is dragging. turning the key sometimes results in a click. turn off and back on maybe another click or starts turning slow at first then speeds...

the starter is probably fine. the valves are out of spec. from what you described. if the valves are not set correctly they will not open and close right. take the valve covers of and check to see what they are. ill bet they are way off the should be at .004 and .006. just set them both at .005 and it will start as good as it did when it was new. its a good idea to check all of the electrical connections to be sure they are are all clean and tight.

24 HP B&S ENGINE HAS compression lock up when at first turn over. I have to turn the flywheel by hand past compression . DO i have a decompession valve problem and how do I repair this ?

Usually a valve adjustment will remedy this problem. The compression release is built into the valve train. If the gap is too great, the compression release will not function properly and you will be trying to start the engine under full compression and the starter motor will not do that. Without knowing the model no. of the engine it is difficult to determine what the valve adjustment is for your application. You would be safe to set both at .004? You may want to contact a local dealer or Briggs website once you get the engine model no. to get the exact specs. I will say that in worse case scenarios, the compression link brakes on the camshaft and no matter how you adjust it, it's not going to help, but again that is rare. That problem of course involves replacing the camshaft. Hope this helps in some way.

What size motor does a 1993 mazda mx3 have?

The MX-3 came with three engine options: a 1.5 L I4 (only found in the Autozam AZ-3), a 1.6 L I4 and a 1.8 L V6. The 1.6 L was available in two versions, an 88 hp (66 kW) SOHC/16-valve B6-ME unit which powered 1992 and 1993 models, or a 106 hp (79 kW) DOHC/16-valve B6-D unit which was found in 1994 and later models. The Japanese market DOHC/16-valve B5-ZE produced 115-120 PS (85-88 kW) (lower powered in automatic versions) and the most powerful DOHC 24-valve V6 K8-DE produced 140 PS (103 kW) at 7,000 rpm (Japan) and 130 hp in North American models. All were available with a 5-speed manual or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission, depending upon the market.

I have a 24 hp briggs, model 445777, type

I believe this does have comression release. Make sure you're rotating the motor in the correct direction, as I think the compression release only works in one direction. Adjust the valve to .004 with the piston at TDC make sure it's on the power stroke. Turn the motor till intake opens, then when you continue to rotate crank, unitl valve closes and piston gets back to TDC. Adjust both valves to .004. Then do the other cylinder the same way.

Cant set valves clearance

Set both intake/exhaust valves at .004 with piston 1/4 inch past top-dead-center on compression stroke if this machine has a Briggs in it

I have crafsman 48" riding mower with a 24 hp intek motor

Bent push rods are a function of the valve guide coming loose in the head. The valve binds and you end up with a bent pushrod. Fix: Replace head. $94.00
