This sounds like it could be a winding or armature(motor) issue. it may also be possible that one or more of the wires at the back or your machine has become burned. take the back off to visually inspect.hope this helps Thanks

Kitchenaid motor slows

If it slows down when mixing, it is most likely that the mixer is being asked to do more than it is capable of. If it slows down when nothing is in the bowl, then the motor/gears/lubrication needs looking after.

Revolves slowly, smoke from back

Houston we have a problem!

Smoke is from only one of two issues:
1 (The ugliest) you have an abundance of food dust (flour) in the mixer and it is burning. You will need to do a full tear down and clean everything and re-assemble (Yuck City)

2 (The most unknown) you have electric problems and it could be any of five different parts that need to be replaced

Possible problems are
1 plastic coating on wiring has rubbed off and it is touching metal, unlikely as it would cause a full short and trip a breaker but not unheard of especially if it is the negative line.
2 (The worst) your motor is going or gone. It comes in two parts the armature (most likely) and the field assembly (less likely)
3(The best) the speed control switch has developed a short and needs to be replaced
4 (The hardest) Slow turning may indicate that a bearing is bad at the front of the armature or at the rear (there are two in the machine) causing the armature to bind and smoke
5 (The best) the carbon brushes are worn down to the nubs and they are burning on the commutator part of the armature causing smoking and slow revolutions. my recommendation is to replace the brushes first as they are the cheapest and easiest to fix. After that you are into a full tear down of the machine which will require new gasket new gear grease additional parts to repair with and re-timing the machine to get the speed correct. I realize that there are no directions to accomplish any of the possible solutions. That is for another discussion, first you have to decide if you want to do it yourself or have it done by a KA tech. Please let us know what you want to do as there is help available.

My KSM150PS stopped working!! HELP!!

Yikes!!!!
Can you tell us what you were making last time you used the machine? Do you do pizza and other doughs a lot. The KSM150 is a 325 watt mixer with lots of power so;
1 first lets go back to the outlet and try anything that can show fast results like a hair dryer to test the outlet.2 The cord from the mixer, do you unplug it by pulling on ti? Or do you use the plug itself when unplugging. Do you have and know how to use a volt meter. If yes to both
3 Remove the rear cover and you will see a black and copper plate with a whole bunch of connectors on it. the left two bottom black and white terminals are the power for the mixer, turn the mixer on and test the terminals to make sure the machine is getting power, if not replace the power cord. You will have to open the machine and take it apart somewhat to replace the cord.
4 it could be the speed control plate itself (Most likely) there are three screws on the plate in an upside down triangle, turn the one on the bottom left a little bit while the mixer is on if it is the adjusting screws it should start again with less than a half turn.
5 Look at all the terminals to the speed control switch and make sure that they are connected if any one of them has come off then the machine won't work.

There can be other problems but this fix is the most common. Let us know if this does not work and we can go into it a little more in depth.

If you leave the machine on for a minute or more does it start to smell (burnt smell or hot electric) If you have a warranty (still within the first year of purchase ) get in touch with Kitchenaid they will send a new mixer with out question. If you are out of warranty then we can fix it, one step at a time, or you could take it to an authorized service center, if you live close by to one. Let us know.

You can try adjusting the speed control as shown in section 6 of the service manual:

Also remove and clean the brushes as shown in the same manual pg 8 fig. #30.

The pasta/meat grinder attachment stops turning

Its a 325 watt mixer. If you grind or mix dough often you may consider getting something stronger or turn it off every ten minutes or so and let it cool down. We burned a 325 and got the 575 watt "600" series and no problems ever since. I know these things are expensive. The 325 is more mixer than grinder. The attachements fit ANY size mixer but some are not recommended for use in all mixers.
If its quiting see my posts on "doesn't run at sitr" and "Removing the motor cover" To get inside and clean those contacts.
