Question about Refrigerators

Kenmore Refrigerator model 75523

This is a 2 year old fridge. Bottom freezer with french doors. No water/ice in door. On Saturday, my son accidentally left the freezer door open slightly defrosting everything in it. On Sunday, I noticed that the refrigerator was not cold. It is now Tuesday and Sears continues to tell me that they can not get anyone out til Saturday. I have had to throw away all of my food (freezer from my son, fridge from having no place to put all my cold stuff and it is HOT).
We turned it off and unplugged the fridge for a couple of hours (the whole freezing up part). When we plugged it back in, the freezer began cooling and the fridge is still warm.
When you turn the fridge thermostat off, and then back on -- it sounds like the damper (see what I have learned) opens and closes but there is no air moving. (The thermostat is not a dial but an electronic type)
Is there a fan that I need to be concerned about? something that controlls a fan? something else?

I don't see frost in the freezer (looking through the vents at the bottom) and I'm at a loss. I'm totally stressed out and all I can get from Sears is "I'm sorry ma'am, this is our busiest season and our technicians are completely booked". I don't really have time to wait or to fix it but is seems that I have company coming Friday and a party planned on Saturday -- I'm just a tad stressed at this point.

Please, if you can help -- I need step by step directions and locations on all this stuff because the most I know about a refrigerator is you plug it in and keep cold stuff in it. Thank you :)

In the freezer there is a air moving....and a fan blowing! Just not in the fridge.

I will try this.......going to unload the freezer again! Thanks :)

This was very helpful. I have the same model and the fridge part quit working yesterday.

The condenser fan (behind freezer near bottom) worked well but there was a lot of dust which I cleaned.

I confirmed that the fridge damper was open but no cold air coming in. Checked the evap fan in the back of the freezer compartment and it wasn't moving. Touched it with my finger and it started moving slowly but not nearly strong enough to force any air all the way up.

Got my wife to call a few local places to see if she could find the evap motor locally. After she came back, put the new motor in and everything works now!

Witht he refrig turned on listen and feel in the freezer compartment for a fan motor and air blowing. im thinking that the evaporator fan motor has gone out in your refrig. the motor is fairly easy to replace its getting to the motor thats fun.

remove the freezerdrawer remove all shelves, remove icemaker, then take out screws that hold rear cover in place. then there is a cover over the air vents that you have to use a screwdrier to kind of pry loose. also there is a sensor cover to the right of the vent that has to be removed.

once everything is disassembled and you can see the fan simply unplug it from the harness on the left side of the motor and unclip it from the fan bracket. reinstall the new motor in reverse.

the part number you will need is 12002744 you can pick it up at the local sears parts and repair center most likely or any othe appliance parts dealer..

if air is blowing then the fan is probably ok. check for frost behind the cover if thas ok then you need to verify that the damper is opening in the refrig section.

in the rear center of the fridge section you see the vent cover this cove pulls off very easy. just remove that cover and verify that the door is opening if its not open you can prop it open with something until you can repl thepart.

Check for cracks in the water supply tube from the house plumbing valve to the ice maker. Could also be the valve itself.

Turn off valve for a day to diagnose which.

Hi,
With the problems it is presenting, I would say it's very likely.
However it may take a bit of detective work to find which board is defective.

Check a part suppliers link Here for price comparison so you have some ideas.

Kenmore bottom freezer refrigerator

This sounds like the Maytag bottom mount that has a High Voltage Control Board problem. Does this have the freezer/fridge temp. display/controls on the left hand fridge door? Whats the model number and on the manufacture tag does it something on it like Code:0304 maybe? Let me know I may have an answer I do work on these for a living.
