When I push the power button, the power button lights up, as do the lock lights. The lock lights turn off after about 3 secs, I hear the fan start, but nothing else happens. No screen, keyboard not responding, nothing. Any help?

There was one loose screw, but it didn't do anything. When the power is on the 4 other lights (power, battery, memory and ?) stay lit up also. Any other ideas? Thanks for the first tip though.

I saw on another site to remove the motherboard battery. I'm trying that. I've recently replaced the motherboard with a fully tested one, but it doesn't seem to work either.

I disconnected the CMOS battery, waited 15 minutes and then put it back in. Everything seemed to be loading, except that the battery appears low. I've ordered a new battery. Thanks for the help everyone!

This may sound awkward, but, turn the unit over and tighten all available screws on the bottom. this should/ may solve your problem. This is a common problem with Dell laptops. If this does not solve your problem you may have to utilize a rescue disk. Thank you, Dana

This is due to a faulty power switch possibly.
the only way to tell is to have the switch removed and replaced.
this also could be a loose flex cable at the power switch.

Well then how about trying to reseat the memory card? Some are due to dirty contact, a thin coat of insulating film that is develop overtime, a gel eraser could be use to clean the contact connector. But be sure to take off the battery and the AC power cord on the system.

Or may maybe an exact positioning of the memory card like the d600 model.

Lights flashing when turned on, replaced batteries, fuse, in drive position

the amount of flashing lights will give you a Flash code. If the the lights are going up and down, you may have a locked joystick. one method is to turn on and (within 10 sec.) push the horn button twice. Push the power button then push the joystick forward until there is a beep sound then back until you hear a beep sound to unlock.

Remote control has stopped working. Have tried changing the battery of the remote control but that did not work.

Does the red light on the remote light up when you push any of the button
if no, replace remote
if yes, then try repograming the remote to the car again.
-Have remotes' ready. if you have two then fob#1 and fob#2 (doesn't matter which one is #1 or #2)
-each step has to be done within 5 sec or it will not work, but don't do it super fast.
1.turn key just to the "on" position (not starting) and push "lock button " on fob#1 once and release
2.turn key off
3.turn key just to the "on" position (not starting)and push "lock button " on fob#1 once and release
4.turn key off
5.turn key just to the "on" position (not starting)and push "lock button " on fob#1 once and release
6turn key off
7.turn key just to the "on" position (not starting) and push "lock button " on fob#1 twice (if you only have one fob, then stop here and go to step 8)and push the "lock button" on fob#2 twice.
8.turn key off and remove key from ignition.
if you did it right, remotes' should work again.
good luck

Compaq nx5000 with new battery and new power

Dear,

Try pressing the CAPS LOCK. If CAPS LOCK is responding then it is surely your inverter.

It is a known problem with the nx5000 series laptop.

The FAN switches off because Intel SpeedStep which is absolutely normal.

I faced and solved at least 6 - 7 such problems on different nx5000 laptops

If CAPS LOCK is not responding then its your motherboard.

Good Luck and Regards
